Why Edge is Back in the SmackDown Intro Video
Despite having his last WWE match against Sheamus in August (as of this writing), Adam Copeland’s Edge character has recently resurfaced in the introduction video that plays at the beginning of every SmackDown episode.
Ringside News reported the following on the matter, providing some much needed context to why the out of contract star is back in the intro.
We are able to confirm that Edge re-appearing in the SmackDown intro was not a sign that WWE thinks they have Edge coming back. It is also not an instance of “one hand not knowing what the other is doing” either. This situation is interesting, because it might have been intentional.

WWE loves generating buzz around a subject, and that seems to be the case once again. A tenured source within the WWE team told us that WWE tried to get “water cooler talk” going about Edge. Also, the development of fan “conspiracy theories” was an added bonus.
It appears the issue is either miscommunication or a play to try get Edge to accept the offer in his mailbox.
As Ringside News later reports in this article, there is still an internal belief that Edge is still AEW bound, as is reported by what Fightful had to say on the subject.
