Finn Balor Says His Promo Skills Only Started To Develop When He Joined WWE In 2014
Finn Balor says his promo skills only began to develop when he signed with WWE.
Balor signed with the company in 2014, and worked NXT until 2016, where he would debut on the main roster and quickly become the first ever WWE Universal Champion. Prior to this, Balor had been working in NJPW as the leader of The Bullet Club, along with time on the Irish and UK circuits prior to that.
With these runs, Balor did not have much time for promo, with being a gaijin in NJPW and a lack of promo work needed on the British and Irish independent circuits at the time.
Finn Balor recently was on The Ringer Wrestling Show podcast, and he spoke about how he only began to develop his promo skills when he signed for WWE in 2014.
“I have wrestled for 6 years in England, never done one promo. I have wrestled for 8 years in Japan maybe done 2 promos in those 8 years. So my promo skills only started to develop when I came to WWE, it’s a steep curve here in WWE. You got guys that are at the top of their game in the ring and on the mic, when you are compared to guys like Randy Orton or John Cena, you know Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns. You’re kind of in that same cast of people, of course your skills gonna look subpar. I had couple of years to work on it, and I’m starting to feel lot more comfortable.
Especially working heel, I feel like it’s closer to my true personality of who I am. So I just speak as I would speak, I don’t really have to sugarcoat things or kiss anyone’s a$$ too much.”

Balor recently captured the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championships alongside Damian Priest at Payback, and is currently trying to recruit Jey Uso into Judgement Day.
