Adam Copeland Realized Halfway Through His SmackDown Match With Sheamus That It Could Be His Final WWE Match

On a recent SmackDown last month, Edge was able to defeat Sheamus with the spear while celebrating his 25th anniversary with the promotion.

After the match, Edge took a microphone and let the Toronto crowd know that it was his final match in the city. With this information, many speculated Edge was on his way to AEW.

At AEW WrestleDream this past weekend, Adam Copeland would make his All Elite Wrestling debut.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Copeland revealed that about halfway through his match against Sheamus that he realized it was possibly his final match in WWE.

“Halfway through the match with Sheamus in Toronto, I was thinking, ‘This is probably my last WWE match. I also started thinking, right then, ‘There is a great chance I retire after this.’”

“The WWE gave me that night, and I’ll hold it with me until I die. I was having so much fun. That was the perfect ending.”

Copeland is scheduled to face Luchasauras in his AEW debut on Title Tuesday and will speak on this week’s AEW Dynamite.

Copeland is said to be looking to take over the role CM Punk served in the company prior to his firing, minus the drama.

It was also confirmed that it was Beth Phoenix who recorded the “You Think You Know Me” in Copeland’s AEW theme.

In the same interview, Copeland spoke about the possibility of competing at Wrestle Kingdom.
