Trinity Talks IMPACT Wrestling Being The Perfect Fit For Her, Mickie James At Bound For Glory

Trinity debuted with IMPACT in May of this year. She went through some of the Knockouts roster and then finally got to the top, where she defeated Deonna Purrazzo at Slammiversary to become the NEW Knockouts World Champion.

She’s held the belt ever since then, tapping out Deonna Purrazzo for a second time in Deonna’s rematch at Emergence, and then successfully defending the title against Alisha Edwards a few weeks later at the LIVE Victory Road event.

Trinity was invited onto Busted Open Radio with Mickie, Tommy Dreamer and David LaGreca. She was asked to reflect on her decision to join IMPACT and Fatu agreed with the point that she feels the power to be authentic and was missing that before.

“I feel that. I feel so much of that (power to be authentic in IMPACT Wrestling). I was just piggybacking off what you (Mickie James) said. I feel so much of that in IMPACT and I feel like that’s what I was missing before… The division, the women, the camaraderie there (at IMPACT is why I chose to join the company). A couple of my friends from FCW who I trust and I know who would not (steer me) wrong are there and I knew that I would be surrounded by just a good team of people and great workers and I knew that I would be challenged in IMPACT and I also felt that I would be given that space to figure me out in IMPACT, and I think I made the best decision… I think it couldn’t have worked out better for me anywhere else than here in IMPACT.

Trinity talks about her upcoming match where she puts her IMPACT Knockouts World Title on the line against Mickie James this Saturday at Bound For Glory.

“I feel like this is probably the most important match in my career now at this moment and the only fear that I have is not giving you (Mickie James) my best on that night. So, I love, I respect you so much. I think you truly are one of the greatest. You have been at this and fighting for women’s wrestling and breaking down barriers and walls before I even knew about it, before I even started here and just to be in that ring across from a woman that I respect so much, my fear is just not living up to all that you see in me. So that is the biggest challenge for me, but also, the most exciting match for me and I’m so looking forward to it and I think it’s gonna be a fan favorite. It’s gonna be a favorite of mine and I know we’re gonna kill it.”

Elsewhere in the coversation, Trinity speaks about how gratifying this run has been for her and how it’s lifted her self-esteem and allowed her to achieve her goals and unlock untapped potential.

“It’s very reassuring, and it makes me happy, and it makes me feel fulfilled in a lot of ways. This wrestler journey, especially as a woman, it’s not an easy road. There are a lot of highs and lows, and somewhere along my career, I stopped feeling — I didn’t feel like I was of value to the women’s division, I wasn’t a star,” Trinity admitted. “Those things really started to set in my head, which is also why I think it led me down this road to really figure it out and prove for myself, not for anybody else, that I belong in this world in this business, and that I am a game changer, and that I am a star. I really needed it to prove that to myself, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Even with all the negativity that happened with my situation, I really feel that it led me to where I am now, to IMPACT, and to be given this opportunity to prove myself, for myself. I hope that, in the future, it inspires others that when one door closes just know, as long as you keep going, that you can find your way through another door.”

Trinity was later asked whether or not she feels like her current run is proving people, she said she absolutely agrees that is the case, but also says that she has learned that no matter what you do, not everyone is going to be on your team.

“Oh 1,000%. I saw the comments and what people were saying about me and it lit a fire in me,” Trinity says. “It just made me tell myself, ‘No, girl, you ain’t going out like this, you gotta get up and get out there and finish this in a better way for myself’. And I feel that I’m doing that in IMPACT. So that makes me feel good, you know?

“Also, no matter what you do, there are just going to be people against you, and they are just not going to be on your team,” she added. “I’m good. I feel fulfilled within myself. I feel like, now, nothing can shake me anymore. I’m in such a good space mentally, physically, and emotionally with everything. I feel like my life is in a way better balance now than it was ever before and I just want to keep going because I love this. I love it. it’s fun for me. It’s great therapy for me to continue performing. I’ve been performing since I was eight years old. That’s what I do. That’s what I love to do. Wrestling is so beautiful because it combines all of these different factors of performing, entertainment, and theatrics. You can sing if you want, you can act if you want, you’re wrestling, you’re physically active, and I just love that I have a world and a place where I can combine all those things that I love and do and bring people happiness because in return, that brings me happiness.”

Mickie James was a co-host on the show as well and stated that she, of course, would have preferred to lose the championship in the ring and if she had to lose it to someone, she wishes she could have lost it to Trinity as she was on her rise in IMPACT.

“It was a sad day when I had to relinquish that championship and obviously, the way I had to relinquish it, just kind of give it up and not lose it. God, if I was to lose it, I would have loved to at least have lost it to you when you were coming in,” said James. “To then see you come in and take that championship and bring it to a whole new level. I mean, first off, I’ve been out there with your entrance now, and it is electric. It’s exciting, and I can’t help but wiggle and dance to it, I’d steal glowsticks from people and swing them around. Like, it’s so exciting, and you are just exciting. I was out there last time. Obviously, we’re gonna see that on Thursday in our big tag match, and I was just like, the people adore you. They really, really do love you, and they gravitate to you because I feel like they, they can see your authenticity. They can see that you are just being true to you. They’re living vicariously through that because we all want to be able to have that power and do that.”

Mickie James was forced to relinquish the IMPACT Knockouts World Title due to injury back in March of this year. She was sidelined ever since, and IMPACT crowned a new champion a few weeks later when Deonna Purrazzo a few weeks later defeated Jordynne Grace at the Rebellion PPV.

Mickie then returned at night 1 of the IMPACT1000 celebration when she was revealed as a mystery partner for a huge Knockouts tag team match. Mickie made it known when she returned that she was coming after the Knockouts World Title – the belt that she never lost or was beaten for.

Tomorrow night, Mickie and Trinity put their differences aside – or so it seems – to team up and take on Gisele Shaw and Savannah Evans. Both women will compete against each other just two days later at Bound For Glory when Trinity puts her Knockouts World Title on the line.

Will Mickie walk out as the new champion, or will she be just one more notch in Trinity’s title reign? We’ll have to tune in on Saturday October 21st to find out.
