Sanshiro Takagi: The Bullet Train Match Was The Biggest Buzz I’ve Ever Had In My Career
Back on September 18th, DDT Pro-Wrestling held its first ever professional wrestling match on a bullet train. The match which featured DDT Pro-Wrestling star and Cyberfight President Sanshiro Takagi as he faced Minoru Suzuki on the Shinkansen train which has a maximum speed of 285 km per hour.
Footage of this match was covered by media outlets all over the globe including The Associated Press, ABC, USA Today and many others.
Takagi did an interview with ITmedia recently and admitted he was not expecting the amount of coverage the Shinkansen train match received. He stated that at 53 years, that match is the most buzz he has ever gotten in his career which began in 1995.
To be honest, I didn’t expect such a response. It’s the biggest buzz I’ve ever had in my professional wrestling career (laughs). I didn’t expect to be so featured at the age of 53…

During the course of the interview Takagi was asked about how much of a constraint on the rules the Bullet Train match had to which Takagi responded by making a comparison to the Antonio Inoki vs Muhammad Ali match back in the 70’s.

Nowadays, mixed martial arts fights are common, but back then, it was impossible for professional wrestlers and professional boxers to have a match. Even so, Inoki-san took on the challenge of making professional wrestling known to the world, didn’t he? I also wanted to prove through Shinkansen Pro Wrestling that professional wrestling is the best entertainment that can be established anywhere. Of course, there were odds
