Josh Alexander Talks Overcoming The Mental Aspect Of Injury & Return

Josh Alexander relinquished the IMPACT World Title in March due to injury. Steve Maclin won the World Title at Rebellion in April, and would carry the title until June 9th at Against All Odds when Alex Shelley defeated Steve Maclin in a big upset to win the IMPACT World Title.

Josh would brave the odds and return just a few short months later, appearing after at Slammiversary after Alex Shelley defeated Nick Aldis to retain the World Title belt. Since his return, Josh has made it will known that he’d be coming for the World Title belt that he never lost.

In a new interview with Busted Open Radio, Alexander spoke about being forced to give up the title and how the mental hurdles are worse than any type of physical pain.

“I mean, that’s exactly it. Giving up the championship, that means a great deal to me, it meant even more because it was such a historic run, and the story didn’t get to complete the way I always envisioned it ending. Giving it up with my family in the ring, in Canada was super tough. I had never defended that championship in Canada as long as I had it throughout that entire time because of COVID and everything else. By the time we started running Canadian shows, I popped my tricep. I handed it over and the hardest part was going home — any wrestler knows this. You have that uncertainty in your mind whenever you get injured, am I going to be able to come back, when I come back, am I going to be as good if not better? It’s more of a mental hurdle than the physical pain you have to deal with.”

Josh Alexander is a 2x IMPACT World Champion, and the longest reigning World Champion as well.

Josh battled Alex Shelley in the Main Event of Bound For Glory for the IMPACT World Title. While he fell short of victory, Josh took Shelley to his limit.

Josh is scheduled to team with Eric Young on Thursday 10/26 in Glasgow, UK to compete against the Motor City Machine Guns, and then the next night on 10/27, the duo compete against Subculture as part of the UK Invasion tour and the Turning Point event.
