Jeff Jarrett Reflects On Ric Flair’s AEW Debut

Jeff Jarrett comments on Ric Flair’s AEW debut.

On last week’s AEW Dynamite, Ric Flair would make his AEW debut as Tony Khan’s gift to Sting. During the segment, Flair would state that he wants to join Sting on his ride to retirement at AEW Revolution 2024.

On hand for this segment was Tony Schiavone, who previously worked with Flair and Sting back in WCW.

Speaking on his My World podcast, Jeff Jarett discussed Ric Flair coming in to All Elite Wrestling, noting that not only was it a major moment for Sting, but Tony Schiavone also.

“A lot of things we talk about on this podcast would not have been on the bingo card, or my bucket list, or however you want to say it, but those three in the ring in 2023, the history of them, and you know Tony Schiavone celebrating his 40th year [in wrestling]. When you trying to wrap your head around that, that is very impressive,” Double J said. “Sting, his longevity, what he’s done in the last two years, man, just had to off to him. It’s amazing. It really is. To me, his career is like no other.

“In TNA, [Sting] kind of flirted with being a heel and we’ve covered that in the Main Event Mafia pods,” Jeff continued. “He was never a heel heel. I call it a historic babyface run. I think from a wrestling historian [perspective] I can’t think of somebody who’s really stayed — yes, his characters evolved from ‘Surfer’ to ‘Crow’ to ‘Joker’ to ‘The Icon.’ Then, the guy who was very instrumental in taking his career to another level and the legendary battles, the Nature Boy. It’s well-documented, Ric’s ups and downs, RicFlairLastMatch.com, and all the success you put together that we all had a hell of a time [with] last summer, but to see all of that come full circle, it was a pretty cool moment. For Ric and Sting, it was cool, but I thought it was a special moment for Schiavone as well.”

While Flair and Sting caught up in the ring last week, Christian Cage would make his way to the stage and would make a few insults in Flair’s direction. He would then challenge Sting and Darby Allin to find a partner for AEW Full Gear for a six man tag against he, Nick Wayne and Luchasauras.
