NWA TV Partners Reportedly Upset With Cocaine Spot, Possible Impact On New Deal, Reality Show Notes

Officials at The CW network are reportedly upset over a recent NWA angle that featured cocaine use.

Saturday’s NWA Samhain PPV featured a controversial segment with veteran manager James Mitchell, who was sitting at a table near ringside, joined by several women and wrestlers. The group, including Mitchell, acted like they were snorting lines of the substance, while also drinking alcohol. This was a segment that aired during the PPV and was acknowledged by the announce team. The viral video can be seen below.

It’s now reported by Haus of Wrestling that higher-ups at The CW were upset with the cocaine spot. This is significant as it was recently revealed that the NWA recently signed a pair of TV deals with The CW, which will reportedly see the top 20 network begin airing two NWA shows in 2024 – the flagship NWA Powerrr series, and a reality TV show about the NWA’s day-to-day and behind-the-scenes business. While NWA owner Billy Corgan recently promised an announcement on two TV deals, the promotion has not confirmed that their new partner is The CW, and they have not confirmed which two shows will be airing. A recent report noted that an official announcement is expected soon.

However, Haus of Wrestling reports that there is an active push by higher-ups at The CW to have the NWA content air solely on their CW app, and not on their actual TV network. It was said that due to the cocaine spot at Samhain, there is now a 90% chance that the NWA Powerrr and the new reality show will air on The CW’s app, and not on TV.

Corgan reportedly came up with the cocaine segment, and pushed for it to air on the PPV. It was also reported that when negotiations were taking place to bring the NWA to The CW, Corgan was told that the network would not be watching the PPV events, and would only be concerned with what happened on the TV show that would be airing on their network. This reportedly changed after the cocaine spot aired during Samhain as The CW was flooded with fan complaints on social media. While not officially announced, fans knew that The CW was set to be the new home of the NWA due to online reports.

This new report also mentioned how the new NWA reality show was fully paid for by Corgan, who is also the Executive Producer of the series. Corgan has the final creative say on the series. The CW did not pay for the reality series and would profit from it by selling advertising. Corgan is said to be optimistic that the exposure of being on The CW will lead to improved merchandise sales and higher ticket sales for NWA events. It’s also possible that there could be guaranteed money for season two of the reality show if the first season is successful.

It was also noted that one of the big selling points for The CW to get behind the NWA reality series was Corgan saying his recent wedding would be a part of it, which network officials are excited to air. The other pro wrestling aspects of the reality series, along with the added deal for Powerrr, were agreed to with the understanding that The CW would be able to air footage from Corgan’s wedding to Chloe Mendel, which took place on September 16th.
