CM Punk’s Camp Believe WWE Are Keeping CM Punk In Their Back Pocket For WrestleMania Season
The latest updates on CM Punk possibly heading to WWE.
Punk has been a free agent since shortly after AEW All In, where AEW president Tony Khan would end up firing Punk, with cause after a backstage brawl also involving Jack Perry at the London event.
There has been much made about a possible return for CM Punk heading to WWE, with the current stance in WWE that he is not coming in for Survivor Series in Chicago later this month.
There have also been reports that Punk’s signing is imminent, but they have been debunked by other reports as well as from the man himself.
Ibou of Wrestle Purists went live on Sunday, and addressed the CM Punk situation. Ibou is well connected in this situation, with sources in Punk’s camp. You can check out the notes from the podcast below, courtesy of Teffo_1.
-Punk’s ready and is actively training in case he gets the call from WWE, becase in wrestling anything can happen anytime.
-WWE feels they have Punk in their back pocket.
-About today’s (Sunday)report that Punk and WWE’s board members would be in a meeting, Punk’s camp has confirmed this was not true. It’s said he would speak to Nick Khan directly.
-About the teases from WWE it’s said CM Punk’s response to them was “I don’t get it” and “why”.
-WWE’s way to handle debuts, returns, surprises when they’re asked about by the dirtsheets is to in some cases confirm them to the media. In other instances they change the topic or “get no sold”. WWE specifically reached out to SRS to tell him Punk was not scheduled for Survivor Series because they don’t want people to have high expectations and hijacking the show.
-CM Punk was said to have options for 2024, whether is WWE or another major promotion.

Ibou would also reply to the notes post, explaining that there is a belief, including in CM Punk’s camp, that WWE are holding out on signing Punk in case they need him for WrestleMania season.
For clarification, I don’t remember saying that last sentence. I’m not sure on their stance with that but the presumption from many, including Punk’s side is that they’re keeping him as a possible back pocket card to use for mania season if a guy needs a big match and has no creative direction.

We will have to wait and see when, if ever, WWE decide to call on Punk but for now, it seems it will not be for Survivor Series later this month in Chicago.
