Shingo Takagi Talks Possible AEW Run, Names Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli & Samoa Joe As Potential Opponents
The current New Japan Pro-Wrestling NEVER Openweight Champion Shingo Takagi likes the idea of a possible run in AEW.
Shingo Takagi, who is scheduled to defend the NEVER Openweight Title on November 10 against Trent Beretta at the NJPW Lonestar Shootout in Texas, spoke with Sports Illustrated to discuss a number of topics.
On such topic that was asked of Takagi was if he had any interest in spending a 6-to-8-month sabbatical in AEW to which Takagi mentioned a few AEW stars he would like step int the ring with:
There are quite a few Japanese wrestlers doing their thing in AEW, aren’t there?” said Takagi. “I’d like to see Bryan Danielson again. Seeing him in the ring would be fine. I just missed Claudio Castagnoli and Samoa Joe when they were in ROH, so I’d like to mix it up with them sometime.

Shingo Takagi also commented on his NJPW Lone Star Shootout opponent Trent Beretta:
I’m excited to wrestle him because I really don’t know much about him,” said Takagi. “The experiences he’s had in AEW and WWE, as well as NJPW, you don’t go through with what he’s done without getting battle-hardened. I was surprised to see we debuted in the same year–that makes me extra keen to beat him.
