Ace Steel Discusses His Time With WWE As A Coach At The Performance Center, Talks Coaching Wrestlers vs. Football Players
Ace Steel was hired by AEW to work backstage as a producer for the company. That changed following the “Brawl Out” incident after the All Out PPV in 2022. Eventually Steel would return to AEW in a limited capacity, this saw him work remotely from home until he was released from the company in September.
AEW wasn’t Steel’s first time in the big leagues, as he previously worked for WWE as a Coach at the Performance Center after being hired in 2019. Unfortunately, Ace Steel was amongst those who were furloughed by WWE on April 15, 2020 as a part of cutbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WWE brought Steel back in October of 2020 and he remained employed by the company until his release on January 5th, 2022.
Ace Steel was recently a guest on “Wrestling with Rip Rogers Live!” where he discussed his time with WWE as a Coach at the Performance Center. Steel was asked about wrestlers seeking advice, and if any of the wrestlers he coached ever sought out advice from him.
“Some. Some. There are still some that hang onto that. Percentage wise, I really can’t throw that at you because every place is different.
I coached at the PC a couple years ago, it’s been about a year. You had a lot of sponges. I had a group of…I was blessed to have…I had some newbies, and then I was gifted a lot of guys who had been working a long time. They had an idea of who the hell I was versus a football player who had no clue that I had experience who ‘That’s my coach’ and I was coach Guy.
To these guys, I’m Ace Steel because they came from the independents, and those guys were an open book. Still, to this day, I’ll comment to them or will reach out, ‘Hey, that was a great match.’ I’ll see a guy debut on SmackDown and kill it. They’ll throw praise right back. ‘Hey, coach, thanks for helping me out along the way.’ They come, they ask, they want to know. Those are the true workers. They do exist. They do exist. It’s just…something happened to our art and I hope we can rectify it. You can’t change the world, but there are some good nuggets out there.”
Steel also went on to comment on the return of his friend CM Punk to WWE. You can check out the entire episode of “Wrestling with Rip Rogers Live!” featuring Ace Steel below.
