Exclusive: Miranda Maverick Talks About Her Submission Victory Over Priscilla Cachoeira At UFC 291
Miranda Maverick is fresh off a victory at UFC 291 and is looking ahead to her next fight at UFC 298.
UFC Flyweight Contender Miranda Maverick recently spoke to Bodyslam.net correspondent Kyle Collison on the Knockouts And 3 Counts podcast. Miranda was asked about her big win via submission with an armbar at UFC 291 over Priscilla Cachoeira, her upcoming fight in February against Andrea Lee at UFC 298.
“Yeah, well, if somebody looks at my UFC record, I take short notices a lot. I’ve only had two full fight camps so far. This will be my third, which I’m really excited to have a full fight camp again and to get to enjoy holidays with my family.
To be honest, I wish I would have had at least one more fight to finish out the year. It’s really frustrating just kind of sitting on a bench for eight months, staying ready for short notices. You know, I stay ready all the time. I stay very lean. And now I’m looking back saying, man, I could have eaten that piece of pie. I kind of wish that I knew a little bit more ahead of time, whether I could fight or not. But now that I have one scheduled for February, I’m ready It’s go time.
As far as my last fight against Priscilla, it was short notice, but I knew about her a little bit. You know, we all kind of get to where we know each other and have watched each other fight, especially if we keep up with the cards, which I don’t very often, but I try to watch the flyweight fights at least. And I knew she was a big striker, knew she was tough. You know, she’s a very durable girl. I’ll give her that. And basically we were like, all right, get it to the ground and we win. And it’s like, yeah. And even my striking, I felt very confident against her. I went in there and pieced her up on the feet too before I took her down. So I was confident in all areas with Priscilla.
It was one of those short notices.. that I got called for it, and I didn’t even have to call anyone else to confirm. You know, I was just like, done. I’m taking it. Thanks.”
“I thought that my fight game is in contrast to hers to the point I was like, this isn’t even a worrisome fight. Like sometimes you have fight games where it’s like, man, this could be hard. This person’s really good at this or they’re well-rounded enough that it might be trouble.
But I see Priscilla as one of those kind of one trick ponies where she’s going to try to hit you as hard as she can. If she can’t make that happen, she’s not going to win. And I’m a very durable fighter. I’ve never really taken a hit where I’m like, okay, I’m out of it now. And on top of that, I knew I was faster than her. I’m younger than her. And I just, yeah, I was ready to go as soon as they called me.”
Miranda Maverick will face Andrea Lee on February 17th, 2024 at UFC 298 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
