The Von Erich Family has been a hot topic in pro wrestling as of late with the upcoming theatrical release of “The Iron Claw.”
On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming, The Von Erich’s (Ross & Marshall) along with their dad Kevin Von Erich appeared to promote “The Iron Claw.” This led to a trios match being booked for Rampage between Ross & Marshall Von Erich and Orange Cassidy against the team of Jake Hager, and 2point0 (Matt Menard & Angelo Parer).
Kevin Von Erich’s AEW appearances this week sparked a conversation on X/Twitter between MLW commentator Joe Dombrowski and Taz, over a match the ECW original had with Kevin roughly 30 years ago. Dombrowski asked, “do you have any memories of wrestling Kevin Von Erich around thirty years ago?”
Taz responded by sharing his memory of the match stating that it was horrible.
“Yeah, I have a memory of the match, it was horrible.”
Another fan commented on Taz’s post about the match, asking what happened and why it was so bad. Taz replied and explained his reasoning for saying the match was horrible.
“Sometimes matches are bad. That’s the way it’s always been, that’s the way it’s always gonna be. I know in todays wrestling biz, many fans expect matches to be great all the time nonstop “5 STAR BANGERS!” … That’s not reality. It’s a difficult business & sometimes guys don’t gel.”
The between Kevin Von Erich and Taz, then wrestling as The Tazmaniac, took place on February 22nd, 1991 for International World Class Championship Wrestling (IWCCW). Kevin Von Erich won the match via disqualification.
Kevin Von Erich will appear alongside his sons Ross & Marshall Von Erich on tonight’s episode of AEW Rampage on TNT as they team with Orange Cassidy against Jake Hager, Matt Menard and Angelo Parker.
