CM Punk Reportedly Suffered Significant Injury During Royal Rumble Match, Set To Address Status On Monday Night RAW
CM Punk’s last few years of his career has been injury-latent. It seems as though that’s not going to change anytime soon.
PWInsider has the report:
PWInsider.com can confirm that Punk is believed to have suffered a torn triceps during the Men’s Royal Rumble match. The severity of the tear has not been confirmed but Punk is believed to heading towards surgery after an appearance on tonight’s Raw. Punk is in Tampa for the show.
The belief among sources we have spoken with is that post-surgery, Punk would likely need in the area of 4-6 months of recovery and physical therapy. If correct, that would obviously put him out of Wrestlemania as a wrestler and if he gets the surgery within the next week, it likely means he wouldn’t be able to return to the ring until this summer in a best case scenario.
A review of the match shows that Punk may have been injured taking a double underhook DDT from Drew McIntyre. Punk rolled out of the ring holding his left arm and was seen speaking to a WWE referee following that spot.
Fightful has provided some context on the possible injury:
Fightful’s Corey Brennan confirmed that towards the end of the WWE Royal Rumble match, that a WWE ref checked on CM Punk and asked if he needed a doctor. However, Punk waved it off as he wished to finish the match.
For those asking, we have not heard that the Cody Rhodes Royal Rumble win was an audible due to the injury.
After 10 years away from the company, CM Punk made a MASSIVE return to the WWE at the end of the SummerSlam PLE.
It was speculated that Punk would be challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Title at Wrestlemania 40, but it had not been confirmed.
CM Punk was recently announced to appear at the Elimination Chamber PLE from Perth, Australia. This event is scheduled for February 24th. No match had been announced for Punk, and while he could still appear, he will not be wrestling at the event.
On January 5th while doing a WWE 2K24 video game event, Punk opened up about how his recent WWE return was kept very quiet.
