Randy Orton on CM Punk’s Return to WWE: I Thought Triple H Was F****** with Me
Randy Orton couldn’t believe that CM Punk was returning to WWE.
Rewind to Survivor Series, this past November, CM Pun shocked the world when he returned to WWE after nearly a decade away from the company.
Punk made his return following the Men’s War Games main event match, which Randy Orton was involved in as part of the winning team. Speaking with Triple H just before the match began, Orton was told by ‘The Game’ that Punk will be making an appearance following the main event.
When speaking with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Orton says he thought Triple H was messing with him when he was told that Punk was showing up following the main event.
“I was supposed to be a surprise in WarGames at Survivor Series,” said Orton. “All these CM Punk rumors started a month prior, and everyone thought–since we were in Chicago for Survivor Series–that CM Punk would be the surprise. So they had Cody a week before WarGames say that he had a friend–me–that was going to come. The surprise was spoiled all because Punk was rumored to be there, and WWE didn’t want people to be pissed.”

While CM Punk’s return didn’t go as hoped due to his injury at the ‘Royal Rumble,’ Orton will be competing in the men’s elimination chamber match this weekend at the namesake premium live event, with a WrestleMania 40 match against WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins on the line.
