The Undertaker: Sting Vs. I In The WWE Would Have Been A Huge Box Office, But Vince McMahon Did Not Want It
The Undertaker talks about the dream match against Sting that never happened.
Despite both men being in the same promotion a decade ago, it never came to fruition that we could see The Undertaker step foot in the ring against ‘The Icon’ Sting in a dream match that just about every fan wanted to see between the two legends of the sport.
While discussing it on his podcast ‘Six Feet Under’, this is what the Phenom had to say about the dream match and why it did not happen.
“That would have been huge box office,” Undertaker said on his Six Feet Under podcast. “It just didn’t work out. He had a short run in WWE and Vince [Vince McMahon] didn’t want it. For whatever reason, I don’t know what it was. He just didn’t feel it. Everybody else was like, ‘People have been clamoring for this match for quite a few years.’ A year or two into that character change, people were already sending me artwork with the billboard or poster. It just never worked out. Then, when he got there, the match would have been good, but I don’t think it would have lived up to the expectations that people have for it. People always think about things in a certain sense. I think they thought in their mind of Undertaker 2007-2008 vs. Sting. It was later on than that. I can say, I was way on the backside of what I was going to do when he got there.”
Sting competed at WrestleMania 31 where he fought and lost to ‘The Game’ Triple H in his official WWE debut. On that same night, The Undertaker made his first return since losing the streak at WrestleMania 30 against Brock Lesnar where Taker defeated Bray Wyatt.
Sting made his final in-ring appearance at AEW Revolution where he alongside his sons and Darby Allin defeated The Young Bucks in a tornado tag match to remain undefeated and retain the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
