WWE announced last week that Von Wagner was released after five years with the company, confirmed by Fightful Select on April 22.
Fightful Select also inquired about Wagner’s main roster status after he was listed as a free agent in last year’s WWE main roster draft, only to return to NXT shortly thereafter. Wagner participated in a main roster battle royal in May but was immediately sent back to NXT with no subsequent main roster plans in place. Similarly, Xyon Quinn, who also competed in that match, did not appear in NXT or on the main roster until his match with Bron Breakker in March.
Towards the end of 2023, Wagner had several appearances on WWE Main Event, competing against NXT talent, but no significant creative plans materialized for him or Quinn on the main roster.
Sources from WWE mentioned that all recent releases involved talents who had been with WWE for over five years but whose career trajectories did not align with their experience level within the company.
