Tony Khan: WWE is Like the Harvey Weinstein of Professional Wrestling

Tony Khan, owner of All Elite Wrestling has been the talk of the town this week, due to the show-closing angle that took place on Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite, and all of the fallout that came with it.

On the show, Khan was attacked by “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and the Young Bucks, even going so far as taking a “Meltzer-Driver” by the AEW Tag Team Champions.

Recently, Khan appeared on the NFL Draft Kickoff show on the NFL Network to discuss the move, its namesake, and AEW’s biggest competitor, WWE.

“Honestly guys, they changed the name a couple months ago to the Tony Khan Driver,” Khan stated in a video clip of the interview. “Maybe I should have seen it coming, in hindsight.”

Khan said that he had a complicated relationship with the Young Bucks and Jack Perry.

He also has a complicated relationship with WWE, as it seems. Later in the interview, Khan spoke about3 AEW and WWE, comparing his company to a soft drink, and WWE to a convicted rapist.

“We’ve been doing this for five years,” Khan stated. “We are the most successful sports startup since the AFL, pre-merger. There has not been a challenger brand that has gained as much market share as AEW in many, many many years. We are like the Pepsi of pro wrestling. And we’re up against a really evil juggernaut. WWE is our competitor; that’s who we’re facing. AEW is like the Pepsi of professional wrestling. WWE is like the Harvey Weinstein of professional wrestling.”

The hosts of the draft kickoff show appeared to be stunned by Khan’s comments, raising up their hands and saying “Okay, Tony,” before changing the subject back to Khan’s storyline injury.
