Jerry Lawler Still Under Legends Deal Despite WWE Not Renewing Contract
WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler is no longer under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, as multiple sources have confirmed to PWInsider.com. WWE chose not to renew his broadcast contract, which ended a relationship that began in December 1992 when he debuted on WWF Prime Time Wrestling. His contract expired at the beginning of 2024.
Despite this, a WWE source noted that Lawler is still covered under a WWE Legends deal. This has been a point of reassurance for fans, while others have remarked how Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn would have ensured Lawler’s contract didn’t lapse.
Lawler has been less visible publicly since his stroke in February 2023, and news of his departure only recently began to circulate. His long association with WWE, combined with a memorable moment when he was resuscitated live on Raw, made his exit surprising for many.
A source highlighted that under previous management, Lawler would have maintained his ties with the company, but changes in leadership have brought a new direction. They noted, “The old company is dead. People can say they hate Vince [McMahon] and Kevin [Dunn], but in the past, certain individuals were guaranteed support. This is no longer the old WWE. Even Howard Finkel wouldn’t have his job for life in this new era.”
