Zelina Vega’s Injury Was Not A Secret Before WWE Queen of the Ring Tournament
Zelina Vega, the reigning Queen of the Ring, will not have the opportunity to defend her crown, which she won in 2021. Recently, WWE announced that Vega had been pulled from the ongoing Queen of the Ring tournament. This announcement came ahead of the tournament finals, set to take place next Saturday at the themed Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE was fully aware of Vega’s need to be pulled from the tournament, similar to the situation with Lashley’s injury. Despite the setbacks, the tournament continues to unfold, leaving fans eager to see who will emerge victorious in the finals.
The news was delivered by Adam Pearce before the May 12th house show. He cited an injury as the reason for Vega’s withdrawal. Originally, the event in Macon, Georgia, was scheduled to feature Vega in a match against Shayna Baszler, a bout rescheduled from Raw. However, with Vega unable to compete, Maxxine Dupri stepped in as her replacement and faced Baszler, ultimately putting Baszler over at the show.
On Monday’s Raw, Baszler went on to face IYO SKY in the quarterfinals, where she put over SKY. The upcoming week will see SKY competing against Lyra Valkyrie in the semifinals, with the winner advancing to the finals. Vega’s removal from the tournament due to injury places her alongside other notable WWE stars like Drew McIntyre, Asuka, and Bobby Lashley, who have also had to withdraw from competitions because of injuries.
The Queen of the Ring tournament continues to captivate fans, even with the unexpected twists and withdrawals of key competitors like Zelina Vega. As the tournament moves toward its climax at the themed Premium Live Event in Saudi Arabia, the excitement builds around who will claim the crown. While Vega’s absence is a significant loss, it highlights the unpredictable nature of professional wrestling, where injuries can alter the course of events. Nevertheless, the resilience and adaptability of WWE ensure that the show goes on, and we’re sending our best to Vega for a speedy recovery.
