ROH on Honor Club Results – 5/23/2024
Here’s what went down this week on Honor Club!
We’re back on Honor Club this week! We’re just over two months away from Death Before Dishonor, recently announced to be in Arlington, Texas, and as always Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman are on the call, so let’s get to the action!
We open up with comments backstage from JD Drake. He’s having to do things by himself, with his partner out, so he’s ready to pull himself up and do what he has to do. But ANTHONY HENRY interrupts! He’s back! Henry gives a pep talk, tells him they’ve been doing this since 2016, and it’s time to PUNCH IN, AND KNOCK OUT. They’ll face Angelico and Serpentico tonight.
Ian and Caprice run down the card. The Workhorsemen are back and will face Angelico and Serpentico tonight. In our main event, we’ve got an 8-man tag, as the Baby Boys (Cole Karter and Griff Garrison) team up with the Premier Athletes (Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari) to take on Lee Johnson, Action Andretti, and Top Flight. Plus, Nyla Rose, and Shane Taylor Promotions also in action.
MATCH 1 – ROH TV Title Proving Ground Match – Kyle Fletcher vs. London Lighting
I did not expect this to get as much time as it did. There was a point where you really felt like the time limit might get Fletcher, but he was able to counter a Sharpshooter and hit his piledriver for the win.
Kyle Fletcher pins London Lightning with the kneeling piledriver in 9:15.
MATCH 2 – The Workhorsemen vs. Angelico and Serpentico
A fun return for The Workhorsemen, that sees the Baby Boys get involved down the stretch. Interference from Garrison and Karter allows Henry to crotches Serpentico on the top rope, Drake tosses Angelico with a belly to belly, then Serpentico falls victim to Working 9 to 5 (a pendulum facebuster/enzugiri combo).
Anthony Henry pins Serpentico after Working 9 to 5 in 7:31.
Post-match, the Baby Boys attack, and try to take out Serpentico with a chair, but Angelico pulls Karter out of the ring, Serpentico superkicks Garrison, and the SAP stand tall.
Backstage, Daddy Magic says he doesn’t know where Cool Hand Ang is (as Ian later clarifies, he’s on his honeymoon with Ruby Soho (all of us at Bodyslam send our congratulations to the happy couple, by the way!), but he says if he beats Bennett tonight, they’ll get a title shot.
MATCH 3 – Nyla Rose vs. Riea Von Slasher
Squash city. Nyla follows the Code of Honor, but Riea tries to stomp her foot and attack early. Bad idea. It doesn’t last long.
Nyla Rose pins Riea Von Slasher via Beast Bomb in 1:33.
Next, we get a Marina Shafir video package! Her father taught her problems are resilient, moldable, and relentless. He taught her to become her own problem. And now, she’s going to teach you. But it turns, out she wasn’t talking to us (was she?), but her son. What an interesting turn for her if we’re separating her from Nyla. Intrigued to see where it goes, in an already stacked women’s division.
MATCH 4 – Jimmy Jacobs vs. Satnam Singh
Jimmy Jacobs is an ROH legend, and gets ALL THE PYRO, causing him to crack a bit in the ring. Glad he’s enjoying it, as this likely isn’t going to end well for him. Indeed, after a low cross body and a chokeslam, this is over in less than a minute. Bye, Jimmy.
Satnam Singh pinned Jimmy Jacobs with a chokeslam in 0:46.
Next, we go to a check-in with Blake Christian, currently participating in the Best of Super Juniors 31 in Japan. He just lost to TJP on night 8, and he is now sitting at 4-3, with 8 points in A Block, tied with Clark Connors, and HAYATA, and just behind Titan and El Desperado (10 points, 5-2). Christian has wins over Connors, Kevin Knight, Titan, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru, and losses to Desperado, HAYATA, and TJP. He still has yet to face BUSHI (3-4, 6 points) and Kosei Fujita (2-5, 4 points). With some help down the stretch, Christian can absolutely make the semifinals. A great run for All Heart (or All Heat, whichever you prefer).
MATCH 5 – Shane Taylor and Anthony Ogogo vs. Jon Cruz and Artemis Spencer
Another big-time squash, in case you were expecting something else. Spencer has no luck with Ogogo, so he tags in Cruz, who says he wants Taylor. Guess how that goes for him?
Shane Taylor pins Jon Cruz after the Marcus Garvey Driver in 1:55.
Then we go to a video Package of Mark Briscoe’s edition of AEW Stories, where we go backstage at Supercard of Honor. Playing with his kids, signing posters, hanging out with Jay Lethal–who is adorable with Mark’s kids. That was a great moment, and if you haven’t seen it yet and you have Honor Club, I urge you to do so. The show was great, and the main event was a beautiful, cathartic moment.
MATCH 6 – Mike Bennett vs. “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard
Menard is looking to secure a Tag Title shot for he and Angelo Parker, as throughout ROH history, if you pin one of the champions in non-title action (before the Proving Ground concept existed), you would earn a title shot.
As it turns out, Bennett’s insurance policy of Matt Taven proves to be his undoing. Taven slides in one of the tag team title belts and uses the distraction to try to throw powder in Menard’s eyes, but misses, blinding Bennett. Menard with Diamond Cutters on both Taven, then Bennett gets the three count.
Matt Menard pins Mike Bennett with a Diamond Cutter in 10:38.
They didn’t call them Diamond Cutters, but come on, plucky underdog, taped ribs, wrestling in jeans. The comparison is RIGHT THERE. It seems likely that Menard and Parker will have a Tag Title shot in the near future.
Backstage, Lexy Nair (with ROH Women’s TV Champion Billie Starkz and Women’s World Champion Athena welcomes us to an EMERGENCY MEM. Minion Empowerment Meeting. Both champs say Aminata and Red Velvet want to talk, talk, talk, but they haven’t accomplished anything, and if the would-be challengers want to throw hands, they can catch them too.
MATCH 7 – Cole Karter, Griff Garrison, Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari vs. Lee Johnson, Top Flight, and Action Andretti
Definitely an Air Traffic Control kind of match, as you’d expect. The finish sees a Mark Sterling distraction on Aubrey Edwards to allow the Baby Boys to wedge a chair in the corner. But SAP comes out to remove it! The distraction lures Karter to the outside, and Dante hits a rising knee on Garrison to set up the finish!
Dante Martin pins Griff Garrison with a half nelson bomb in 11:29.
The faces celebrate, while the Baby Boys are upset at SAP, and that’s how we close out. The feud is getting a bit more violent, so we’re probably heading to a Street Fight, or some kind of stipulation match soon.
With that, Ian and Caprice sign off, and HAPPY WRESTLING, EVERYBODY!
