AJ Styles: I’m Only Interested In Facing Off Against The Rock If He Is The Babyface

AJ Styles doesn’t think The Rock wants none.

Before returning as a babyface, The Rock was heavily speculated to be involved in a WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns. Those plans changed overnight as fans led a campaign to get Cody Rhodes back into the main event of WrestleMania XL against Reigns in a rematch from a year ago. This resulted in the Rock becoming a heel for the first time in over a decade and a historical feud being sparked between the Bloodline and the Nightmare family.

In a conversation with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, AJ Styles spoke about the heel run of the Rock and if he would have any interest in a showdown with the People’s Champion.

“Of course, I’m interested–but only if that means The Rock is turning babyface. I’m not interested in being a mediocre bad guy. I want to bring this to a whole new level. I like to think I’m one of the few old school guys left. I look back and I’m so thankful I was able to pay off my house. That’s one of those things I hoped to do in my career, that I could do something I enjoy and provide for my family–and still have something left over for retirement. I’ve stuck with it long enough to take care of everyone who needed to be taken care of. As bad, ugly, and mean as a heel is supposed to be, I’m going to be that guy. When I step into an arena, I want more boos than Dominik Mysterio. That’s what I’m after. That’s my job, and I want to do it better than anybody,” he said.

Styles was involved in a championship match against Cody Rhodes at Backlash: France where he lost in a close battle before once again losing the following week, this time in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament against Randy Orton.
