Damian Priest: Before Signing With The WWE, I Was Preparing To Do My First MMA Fight

Damian Priest was about to go down the MMA road before WWE.

A long-time fan of the sport of MMA, Damian Priest, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion has been able to incorporate the style of the sport into his pro wrestling arsenal and almost stepped foot in a cage fight before he got the call from the WWE.

You can read the full quote below on how Priest almost stepped foot in the cage before he got the call from the WWE.

“I love MMA. I’m a fan and have always been (a fan). I was trained. There was a time, before I signed with WWE, that I didn’t think I would make it here. I was in talks to do a smaller scale event. I was going to fight in a cage. I was going to start training, I had talked to trainers, and I was going to get the ball rolling. WWE called and I was like, ‘Never mind.’ [Laughs]. No need to do all that. I have always been a fan. I still enjoy, on occasion, sparring, but at this point of my life, I’m all in on WWE and that’s it,” Priest said on the Rob Brown Show.

Priest would go on to sign with the WWE in 2018 and is now in his sixth year with the promotion as the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, he will make another defense, this time against his bitter rival Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle.
