Ric Flair Recalls Kurt Angle Wanting To Sign With WCW
Kurt Angle almost signed with WCW back in the day.
In 1998, Kurt Angle signed with the WWE (WWF at the time) where he went on to have a historical career with the promotion and won multiple world championships during his time. But did you know he almost signed with WCW before he met with the boss of WWF?
During an interview on Busted Open Radio, Ric Flair spoke about how he was the one that gave Angle the phone number of Vince McMahon which led to Angle signing a contract with the WWF in 1998.
“We were at a gym in Nashville, TN. I had met Kurt several times. He walked over and said, ‘I think I’m getting into wrestling. What do you think? What do you think of me going to WCW?’ I said, ‘If I were you right now….Give me a minute.’ I went into the locker room, got my phone, called Vince, put him on the phone. He was working out with Dory Funk Jr. two weeks later. WCW, they would have destroyed…no one is going to destroy Kurt Angle, but they would have seen him coming with all that talent. Kurt, when healthy, absolutely one of the great ones. Kurt is a special kind of athlete and a special guy,” Flair said
Angle has confirmed the story before and has said that Flair is telling the one hundred percent truth. Angle would go on to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
