Exclusive – From Down Under to the Top: Shane Haste’s Journey to New Japan Pro Wrestling
Exclusive Interview with WrestleMobs
In an exclusive interview with WrestleMobs, Shane Haste opens up about his remarkable journey from Australia to WWE and now New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). Haste’s story is one of resilience, adaptability, and a deep passion for wrestling. He shares insights on his career transitions, the challenges he faced, and the sense of community he found in NJPW.
Shane Haste began his wrestling career in Australia, quickly making a name for himself with his athletic prowess and charismatic presence. His success caught the attention of WWE, where he became part of the tag team TM-61 with Mikey Nicholls. However, his WWE journey was not without its challenges.
“You give them a list of names and suggestions. They ignore it, of course, and do whatever they want,” Haste said, expressing his frustration with WWE’s creative process.
Injuries also plagued his WWE career. Haste recalled tearing his ACL twice, which impacted his ability to perform at his best. “I tore it in my singles tag match against Roderick Strong… but whatever, cares,” he shared.
WrestleMobs: “How did you cope with the creative frustrations and injuries in WWE?”
Shane Haste: “It was tough. You try to put your best ideas forward, but often they get overlooked. And the injuries, they were a significant setback, but you push through because that’s what we do.”
The move to NJPW was a significant turning point for Haste. He highlighted the supportive environment and the creative freedom he enjoys at NJPW, which was a stark contrast to his experience in WWE.
“New Japan treats me so well… They’re accommodating… just the trajectory that indicates going at the moment… why would I want to leave?” Haste remarked, emphasizing the positive shift in his career.
One of the standout aspects of Haste’s NJPW experience is the camaraderie among wrestlers. He praised the supportive atmosphere backstage, which has been crucial to his success.
WrestleMobs: “What’s the biggest difference between NJPW and WWE in terms of backstage environment?”
Shane Haste: “It’s just so chill… we do our wrestling thing, and then we can just hang out. Everyone’s normal. No one’s trying to steal anyone’s job.”
Haste appreciates the relaxed rules and emphasis on honor and competition in NJPW, which align perfectly with his wrestling philosophy.
“The freedom and the fun of it all… It’s just easier when you have your mates to bounce off of,” he said, highlighting the collaborative spirit in NJPW.
Looking ahead, Haste is excited about his participation in upcoming tag league tournaments and other NJPW events. His goal is to continue delivering memorable performances and contributing to NJPW’s legacy.
Shane Haste’s journey from Australia to WWE and now to NJPW is a testament to his resilience and dedication. His experiences highlight the challenges and rewards of professional wrestling. As Haste continues to make his mark in NJPW, fans can anticipate more thrilling matches and captivating storylines from this talented wrestler.
