WWE Smackdown Results & Review (July 19th, 2024)

On July 19th, 2024 WWE aired the 1,300 episode of Smackdown live in Omaha, Nebraska inside CHI Health Center.

-Kicking off this week’s Smackdown with a a video recapping The Bloodline’s attack on Randy Orton last week.

-Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes asks Omaha what they want to talk about then says they could talk about Randy Orton. He says he has the privilege of calling Orton both a friend and a mentor then credits him for helping him become Undisputed WWE Champion. He voices how guilty he feels about The Bloodline attacking him last week given that he has a family and a severe spinal injury.

-Rhodes says family isn’t always blood and says Orton is his family and his brother. He says if Orton were in the ring with him, he wouldn’t want him to talk about the guilt and shame he feels. He says Orton would want him to look ahead and in doing so that means his SummerSlam match against Solo Sikoa. He recalls telling Sikoa that he wasn’t ready ahead of WrestleMania 39 before Sikoa cost him the Undisputed WWE Title that he now holds. He asks Sikoa how it feels with him standing in the ring as champion while he doesn’t hold a title of his own.

-A Town Down Under then make their way out and Austin Theory says Rhodes is spending a lot of time talking about The Bloodline. He complains about having a swollen cheek courtesy of Jacob Fatu & Rhodes questions if Theory has a swollen cheek because of Fatu or Grayson Waller. Waller says Rhodes is pushing a narrative and blames him for Orton being attacked last week.

-After the break Rhodes requests a 2 On 1 Handicap Match from Nick Aldis against A Town Down Under later tonight. Aldis agrees but tells Rhodes he needs to find a tag team partner.

Non Title Match
Speed Champion Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes

Match starts off with a lock up then Andrade hits a shoulder tackle on Carmelo Hayes but Hayes responds with a hurricanrana. Andrade lands on his feet and they exchange forearms with one another.

Andrade connects with a boot to Hayes but Hayes responds with a springboard leg drop on him as Andrade is draped through the middle rope as we go to a break.

After the break Andrade runs over Hayes with a clothesline before Hayes fires off right hands on him but Andrade connects with a series of open palm strikes and a pair of dragon screws.

He follows it up with a Meteora on Hayes in the corner and goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out.

Hayes then hits a Tijeras to Andrade and sits him on the top rope before he joins him up there.

Andrade pushes Hayes off and looks to land a moonsault but Hayes rolls out of the way but Andrade lands on his feet and hits a standing moonsault then goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out.

Hayes rocks Andrade with a knee on his head but Andrade responds with a back elbow and goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out.

Andrade ascends to the top rope and looks to fly but Hayes catches him with The First 48 and goes for a pin but Andrade kicks out and Hayes climbs to the top rope.

He looks for Nothing But Net but Andrade moves out of the way and hits The Message for the win.

Winner: Speed Champion Andrade

-Corey Graves thanks Women’s Champion Bayley & Nia Jax for joining him then looks to ask Jax about challenging Bayley for the Women’s Title at SummerSlam. Jax cuts him off and declares she will dethrone her on August 3rd. She says she’ll put her out of her misery like an old, sick dog. Bayley tells Jax that she hasn’t changed in all the years she’s known her, and Jax demands Bayley call her Queen Nia. Bayley tells Jax she’ll call her what she wants and says Jax hasn’t changed. She says Jax took her out of her 2017 SummerSlam match and says Jax hurt her because she’s big, clumsy and reckless.

-Jax says she’s content being Queen Of The Ring and Queen of the Smackdown Women’s division. She reiterates that she’ll dethrone Bayley at SummerSlam and Bayley says if Jax has changed so much since 2017, she has as well. She says she will walk in and out of SummerSlam as Women’s Champion and Jax storms off.

-We then head backstage and see Jade Cargill & Bianca BelAir get into a verbal confrontation with Chelsea Green & Piper Niven about who gets to talk to Nick Aldis first outside of his office. BelAir then challenges Green to a match.

Bianca BelAir vs. Chelsea Green

Chelsea Green clocks Bianca BelAir before Belair returns the favor but Green lands an enzuigiri on her and looks to hit Unprettier.

BelAir escapes and lands a German suplex then looks to hit a springboard moonsault but Green moves out of the way.

BelAir gets Green on her shoulders and looks to land KOD but Green escapes and rolls up BelAir but BelAir reverses the fall for the win.

Winner: Bianca BelAir

-After the match BelAir & Jade Cargill stare down Piper Niven & Green but Green pulls Niven out of the ring before anything happens. Women’s Tag Team Champions The Unholy Union then appear on the Titan Tron and tell BelAir & Cargill that they’ll consider giving them the Women’s Tag Team Titles rematch they’re looking for.

-Nick Aldis introduces LA Knight & United States Champion Logan Paul and they both make their way down to the ring.

-Paul asks Omaha why he would give Knight a shot at the United States Title and Knight says while Paul thinks there’s no reason he should face him, he’s owned and cooked him every time they’ve come face 2 face. He recalls their first meeting a year ago and says Paul has since become the United States Champion. He says he can never take that away from him and says he’s the guy as long as he holds it. Knight then says breaking into Paul’s house, it allowed to pin him in their Triple Threat Money In The Bank Qualifiying which felt good.

-Paul tells Knight that he sounds pathetic and says he needs a match against him. He tells Knight he doesn’t need to face him and says while Knight’s existence depends on the ring, he doesn’t. He says Knight is good and he enjoys his gimmick but he wants his accolades. Paul says Knight will never get them because he doesn’t move like him then says he’s nothing like him. He says Knight is a gym bro with a spray tan and a catchphrase pretending to be The Rock.

-Knight says Paul is using old material and says Paul is a fraud in WWE pretending to be a champion. He tells Paul that while his brother is able to face Mike Tyson, he can’t even face him. A fired up Paul then signs the contract and draws a map of where Knight can stick his dreams of becoming a WWE Champion.

-Paul & Knight then get in one another’s faces but Aldis keeps them apart. Paul exits the ring but slides back inside and begins brawling with Knight. Knight looks to land BFT but Paul slides out of the ring before he can.

Ms Money In The Bank Tiffany Stratton vs. Michin

Tiffany Stratton hits a hair whip to Michin before Michin rolls up Stratton but Stratton kicks out.

Michin then hits a dropkick to Stratton and follows it up with a cannonball before Stratton rolls out of the ring. Michin chases her to the other side and Stratton hides behind Nia Jax.

She then manages to land an Alabama Slam on Michin as we go to a break.

After the break Stratton flies over the top rope and off the apron to land on Michin.

She follows it up with a handspring back elbow in the corner and a spinebuster then looks to connect with a 2nd Alabama Slam. Stratton escapes but Michin hits her with a dropkick and a neckbreaker.

She follows it up with a tornado DDT out of the corner and goes for a pin but Stratton kicks out.

Stratton lands a forearm on Michin then follows it up with a hip attack and a dropkick.

She sits Michin on the top rope but Michin connects with a dropkick on her and runs the ropes looking to level Stratton on the outside. Jax grabs the ankle opening the door for Stratton to land a forearm on her.

Stratton looks to land Prettiest Moonsault Ever on the outside but Bayley appears and captures her attention. Jax charges at her but Bayley sends her crashing into the timekeeper’s area.

Bayley then grabs Stratton’s Money In The Bank contract and destroys it using the announce desk and the ring steps. She then stomps on it as an enraged Stratton watches on.

This opens the door for Michin to roll up Stratton for the win.

Winner: Michin

Tag Team Match
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens vs A Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller)

Cody Rhodes & Austin Theory lock up before Kevin Owens tags in and hits a double right hand to Theory’s midsection with Rhodes.

Owens & Theory then brawl on the outside, but Owens dumps Theory back in.

Rhodes tags in and Theory hits a clothesline to him.

Grayson Waller then tags in and hits a back elbow to Rhodes’ spine before Rhodes sends Waller crashing into the top turnbuckle face first.

Owens tags in and fires off right hands and stomps on Waller then follows it up with an atomic drop and a right hand then connects with a cannonball and ascends to the top rope.

Owens lands a Swanton Bomb but Waller gets his knees up then Theory tags in and hits a dropkick to Owens then tags Waller back in.

Theory hits a backbreaker to Owens & Waller follows it up with an elbow drop off the middle rope as we go to a break.

After the break Waller tags in and lands a pair of elbow drops on Owens then jams his knee into the side of Owens’ head and prevents him from tagging in Rhodes.

Waller hits another elbow drop to Owens and they teeter on the ropes before Waller fires off forearms on Owens.

Owens responds with a series of right hands on Waller that sends him crashing off the ropes then hits a Swanton Bomb and tags in Rhodes. Theory tags in and Rhodes fires off right hands on his head.

He hits him with a clothesline and a scoop powerslam, then connects with the Bionic Elbow.

Waller makes the blind tag and Rhodes hits a tornado DDT to Theory before Waller blindsides him with a jumping flatliner then tags in Theory.

Rhodes almost sends Theory crashing into Waller & Waller looks to land a jumping knee on him but Rhodes moves out of the way and Waller almost hits Theory.

Theory catches the knee but Rhodes connects with a Cody Cutter on him after Waller moves out of the way to avoid taking the move himself.

Owens then hits a Stunner to Waller & Rhodes hits Cross Rhodes to Theory for the win.

Winners: Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens

-After the match The Bloodline make their way down to the ring. Rhodes hits a tope suicida to Tama Tonga & Solo Sikoa as Tonga Loa gets Owens up on his shoulders. Owens escapes and Rhodes sends Sikoa’s face bouncing off the announce desk. He & Owens then look to send Sikoa crashing through it but Jacob Fatu blindsides them. He hits a superkick to Owens and fires off headbutts on him in the ring then delivers a series of hip attacks to him as Sikoa & Tonga force Rhodes to watch by holding him in place. Fatu lands a headbutt on Owens off the top rope and The Bloodline sends Rhodes crashing through the announce desk with a Triple Powerbomb then they put a chair around Owens’ throat and send him crashing into the ring post standing tall while holding up the One symbol to close out Smackdown.
