Exclusive: Wrestling with Decisions – Why Eddie Dennis Left WWE and Returned Home

WrestleMobs Exclusive

Eddie Dennis, the BritWres legend, known globally for his stints in WWE NXT UK, and locally for his remarkable balancing act between teaching and wrestling, recently made waves by stepping away from his role as a producer for WWE NXT and returning to the independent wrestling scene. In an exclusive interview with WrestleMobs, Dennis opened up about the motivations behind his decision, the challenges he faced, and his hopes for the future.

From the Ring to the Writer’s Room

After NXT UK was disbanded in 2022, Dennis was offered a full-time position as a writer for NXT in Florida. For many, this would seem like a dream opportunity—working closely with WWE legends like Triple H and Shawn Michaels, contributing to the creative process behind one of wrestling’s most popular brands. However, the reality of the job proved to be far more complex.

Dennis described his time as a writer as challenging, particularly due to the remote nature of the work. Living in the UK while trying to maintain a regular schedule with the Florida-based team meant logging in to work in the late afternoon and often working into the early hours of the morning. “I wasn’t satisfied with it,” Dennis admitted. “I wasn’t enjoying the process. If it had been a different world and they’d have gotten us a visa and helped me and my wife emigrate out there, maybe it would have been different. But I wasn’t happy.”

A Brave Decision

Leaving a stable job at WWE, especially one that seemed to offer long-term security, was not an easy choice. Dennis acknowledged that it was a financially reckless decision but one that he needed to make for his well-being. “People talk about the braveness of when I left my head teacher role to wrestle full-time, but it honestly felt much braver when I quit the writing job,” he reflected. “That was a job for life with the company that was always supposedly the dream company.”

For Dennis, the key to making this decision was recognizing that his dream had evolved. What started as a desire to wrestle for WWE had transformed into a need for personal satisfaction and happiness in his professional life.

Back to the Indies

Since his departure from WWE, Dennis has returned to the independent wrestling circuit, where he feels more at home. Despite the financial instability, he has found a renewed sense of purpose and joy in performing. “I’ve had some of my favorite professional wrestling matches since returning to the Indies,” Dennis shared.

His return to the independent scene has been met with excitement from fans and promoters alike, and Dennis continues to make significant contributions to the industry. He remains open to future opportunities, whether in wrestling or other fields, but for now, his focus is on enjoying his time back in the ring.
