WWE Smackdown Results & Review (August 2nd, 2024)

On August 2nd, 2024 WWE aired the 1,302nd episode of Smackdown live in Cleveland Ohio inside Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

-Kicking off this week’s Smackdown with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes asks Cleveland what they want to talk about then revises his question and asks who they want to talk to then calls Solo Sikoa down to the ring and he makes his way out.

-Sikoa demands that Cleveland acknowledge him and Rhodes tells Sikoa it’s not easy to do what he’s done in regards to becoming the new Tribal Chief. He says he admires what Sikoa has done from far away, but when the bell will ring at SummerSlam, Sikoa will find out that he has nothing to lose while he has everything on the line.

-Sikoa asks Rhodes if he’s done and tells him that he’s wasting his time. He says he’s running out of patience like Rhodes is running out of time as the Undisputed WWE Champion. Rhodes says he’s not done then says Sikoa is a self appointed Tribal Chief while he is undoubtedly the Undisputed WWE Champion. He says if he loses to Sikoa tomorrow night, he can’t repay the debt he intends to towards Randy Orton & Kevin Owens if he loses. Sikoa points out that Rhodes keeps mentioning his Bloodline Rules match against Roman Reigns during Night 2 of WrestleMania 40 then says he’s dangerous rather than weak. He says he will show Rhodes just how dangerous he is tomorrow night then challenges Rhodes to up the ante in their match tomorrow night by making it Bloodline Rules.

-Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa make their way down to the ring through the crowd and surround the ring. Rhodes tells Fatu, Tonga & Loa that he isn’t scared of them, then accepts Sikoa’s Bloodline Rules challenge. Sikoa tells Rhodes he could order Fatu, Tonga & Loa to attack him but he isn’t going to in order to let Fatu & Tonga focus on winning the WWE Tag Team Titles later tonight. Rhodes tells Sikoa that he doesn’t have to fight his family, but defeat the Tribal Chief. He says since the Tribal Chief isn’t present, he’ll settle for the wannabe tomorrow night instead.

Non Title Match
Speed Champion Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes

Match starts off with a lock up before Carmelo Hayes fires off a chop on Andrade in the corner and they take turns trying to lock in submission holds on one another.

They then exchange chops but Hayes connects with a dropkick on Andrade.

Andrade responds with one of his own before he and Hayes roll up one another.

Andrade sets up for The Message but Hayes avoids it and rolls out of the ring as we go to a break.

After the break Hayes sends Andrade crashing into the ring steps on the outside and fires off stomps on his head.

He dumps Andrade back inside the ring and delivers a springboard lariat then goes for a pin but Andrade kicks out.

Hayes then wears Andrade down with a submission hold but Andrade escapes and fires off right hands on Hayes’ midsection.

He then lands a Dragon Screw on Hayes and sends him crashing into the mat then rocks him with a forearm from the apron and looks to fly back into the ring.

Hayes trips Andrade and brings him back into the ring over the top rope with a DDT.

Hayes then ascends to the top rope but Andrade intercepts him and joins him up there. Andrade then hits a superplex on Hayes as we go to a 2nd break.

After the 2nd break Andrade fires off chops on Hayes and connects with a forearm.

Hayes looks to fly off the ropes but Andrade sends him crashing to the outside and hits a moonsault to him off the ropes.

He gets Hayes back inside the ring and charges at him in the corner but Hayes sees him coming and sends him crashing into the mat. He goes for a pin but Andrade kicks out.

Andrade sends Hayes crashing into the mat and ascends to the top rope then looks to land a moonsault.

Hayes rolls out of the way but Andrade immediately hits a second standing moonsault and goes for a pin.

Hayes kicks out and looks to land a Codebreaker on Andrade but Andrade avoids it and cinches in a Figure 4.

Hayes crawls over to the bottom rope to break the hold then hits a pair of superkicks to Andrade and ascends to the top rope.

He looks to fly but Andrade moves out of the way and sets up for The Message.

Hayes avoids it and rolls Andrade grabbing onto his trunks but Andrade reverses with a roll up of his own for the win.

Winner: Speed Champion Andrade

-We then head over to Gorilla Position where Legado Del Fantasma hypes Santos Escobar up for his upcoming match against Apollo Crews. Angel says Escobar will easily beat Crews but Escobar points out that Angel & Escobar were unable to eliminate Crews & Baron Corbin from the #1 Contenders Gauntlet Match for the WWE Tag Team Titles last week.

Apollo Crews vs. Santos Escobar

Santos Escobar hits an enzuigiri to Apollo Crews from the apron.

Escobar lands a tilt a whirl backbreaker on Crews but Crews fires off a right hand and a pair of clotheslines on Escobar. Crews connects with a Gorilla Press on Escobar but Humberto hops up on the apron.

Crews clocks him and hits a standing moonsault on Escobar then ascends to the top rope.

Escobar pulls him off after Crews becomes distracted by Baron Corbin being attacked on the outside then lands Phantom Driver for the win.

Winner: Santos Escobar

-After the break Nick Aldis introduces United States Champion Logan Paul as and 3 Cleveland dignitaries stand by.

-Paul tells LA Knight that he’s never met a man so eager to take the United States Title from him. He says whether fans in the arena want to admit it or not, he inspires the great city of Cleveland and represents it. He says Knight has many fans because people can relate to him as a bunch of try hards. He continues ragging on Knight and says he can’t relate to the fans in attendance booing him because he made it.

-Paul says he’s in the ring to recognize his greatness with the 3 Cleveland dignitaries in the ring. Aldis says he researched the 3 dignitaries but couldn’t find anything about them. Paul then says that they will be unveiling a banner on the rafter for Cleveland’s greatest and when it unfurls, a giant yeah is spray painted across Paul’s face on the banner.

-Knight’s music hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Knight tells fans he wants to talk to them and says Paul is lucky that the graffiti on the banner was all he did. He says that Paul isn’t even from Cleveland as he’s from Westlake, Ohio then says since tomorrow will be the worst day of Paul’s life, he’ll get him another banner.

-Knight heads to the back to grab the 2nd banner as Paul eggs him on then approaches Pretty Deadly and asks him if they’ve found a banner. Pretty Deadly say they haven’t then promote their upcoming musical. He finds Paul’s PRIME Hydration Drink vehicle as Paul runs to the back and drives off in it.

Women’s Tag Team Titles Match
The Unholy Union (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn) (c) vs. Bianca BelAir & Jade Cargill

The Unholy Union looks to blindside Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair but Cargill & BelAir see them coming and attacks them.

Cargill then lands a splash on Isla Dawn in the corner then connects with a backbreaker and rocks her with a forearm.

BelAir tags in and fires off stomps on Dawn but Fyre gets in the ring and looks to land a double suplex on Belair.

Cargill comes to Belair’s aid and Cargill & BelAir then send The Unholy Union crashing into the mat with a Military Press as we go to a break.

After the break Cargill looks to tag in BelAir but Dawn pulls her off the apron.

Dawn tags in and double teams on Cargill with Fyre then wears Cargill down and tags Fyre back in.

Cargill hits a double suplex to The Unholy Union then tags in BelAir.

BelAir lands a crossbody off the top rope onto The Unholy Union then levels them both and lands a single legged dropkick on Dawn.

She connects with a delayed vertical suplex on Fyre and hits a shoulder to Dawn’s midsection then rains down right hands on both Fyre & Dawn in the corner and sends Fyre crashing into Dawn.

BelAir lands a spinebuster and a springboard moonsault on Fyre and goes for a pin but Dawn breaks the fall.

Cargill pulls Dawn out of the ring and hits a superkick to her and Fyre rolls up BelAir back inside the ring but BelAir kicks out.

Blair Davenport appears at ringside and sends Cargill crashing into the ring steps then gets in the ring and clocks BelAir causing the disqualification.

Winners By DQ: Bianca BelAir & Jade Cargill (The Unholy Union retains)

-After the match Davenport & The Unholy Union attack BelAir in the ring before Cargill looks to attack them but they send her crashing into the ring post and the announce desk.

-After the break we head over to a video hyping up the Women’s Title match between Bayley & Nia Jax tomorrow night.

-We then head over to an upset Miss Money In The Bank Tiffany Stratton before Nia Jax enters and presents her with a custom Women’s Money In The Bank briefcase then warns Stratton to be careful should she choose to cash it in tomorrow night for the Women’s Title. Chelsea Green & Piper Niven walk in and Green tells Stratton the changes she would make to her new Money In The Bank briefcase. Stratton takes offense and tells Green that green is not her color.

WWE Tag Team Titles Match
DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) (c) vs. The Bloodline (Tama Tonga & Jacob Fatu)

Tama Tonga wastes no time firing off strikes on Tommaso Ciampa in the corner.

Tonga hits a modified bodyslam to Ciampa then sends him crashing into the ring post shoulder first as we go to a break.

After the break Fatu looks to land a splash on Ciampa in the corner but Ciampa avoids it and tags in Johnny Gargano. Tonga tags in on his side and Gargano connects with a pair of strikes on him.

He lands a dropkick on Jacob Fatu and one on Tonga then sends Fatu crashing out of the ring and hits an enzuigiri to Tonga from the apron.

He then connects with a spear through the middle rope and goes for a pin but Tonga kicks out.

Ciampa tags in and DIY double teams on Tonga.

Gargano flies off the apron to level Fatu on the outside and Ciampa hits an Air Raid Crash to Tonga off the middle rope then goes for a pin but Tonga kicks out.

Ciampa then fires off chops on Tonga’s chest but Fatu makes the blind tag in and hits Ciampa with a back elbow. He hits a superkick to Gargano then tags Tonga back in.

Fatu then drags Ciampa into position for Tonga to hit a splash to him off the top rope.

Tonga goes for a pin but Gargano breaks the fall then Fatu sends Gargano crashing to the outside and looks to land a hip attack on him.

Gargano moves out of the way and Fatu is sent crashing into the ring steps.

Back inside the ring Gargano tags in and DIY hits Shatter Machine to Tonga.

They set up for Meeting In The Middle but Tonga Loa hops up on the apron.

This opens the door for Sikoa to clock Gargano & Tonga to land a reverse DDT before going for a pin but Gargano manages to kick out.

Fatu fires off stomps on Gargano in the ring and holds up the One symbol with Tonga.

Loa hops up on the apron but Gargano clocks him and hits a tope suicida to Tonga on the outside.

He then hits a reverse hurricanrana to Fatu back in the ring but Fatu quickly recovers and hits a Samoan Drop to him.

He ascends to the top rope and hits a moonsault then sends him crashing into the mat with a Impaler DDT for the win.

Winners & New WWE Tag Team Champions: The Bloodline (NEW CHAMPIONS!!!)

-After the match the WWE Tag Team Titles get placed on Sikoa’s shoulders as The Bloodline stands tall over Gargano in the ring to close out this week’s Smackdown.
