AEW Collision Results & Review (August 3rd, 2024)

On August 3rd, 2024 AEW aired the 56th episode of Collision live in Arlington Texas inside ESports Stadium.

-Kicking off this week’s Collision with Trios Champion Christian Cage said he would make this short and sweet as he hates the town and has a private plane waiting to take him out of it. He talked about winning the Trios Titles as a vehicle back to the AEW World Title. He also said he would use it as a gift for his family who supported him the last year. He added that what he holds are not belts but titles and that his family realizes that the titles really mean.

-Cage puts over Trios Champion Nick Wayne and announces that he is the youngest champion in AEW history. He presents Wayne with his title and turns to Trios Champion Killswitch. He said Killswitch has been the finisher and the muscle of The Patriarchy. He does all the dirty work when it’s needed and Cage said he appreciated that. He then added that Killswitch did not give birth to a prodigy  Mother Wayne did. Cage presented the title to her while Killswitch held his arms out. Killswitch grabs Cage by the shoulder but before the segment could go any further House Of Black interrupted.

-Cage reminded them that Buddy Matthews is injured and that they are no longer a Trios team. Cage assumed that they were out there for some fatherly advice. He said he didn’t believe all the hype for Black and wondered why they 2 of them would confront the three of them. Cage yells what were you thinking? Black said This.

-The lights went out and when they came back on Matthews was standing with Black & King. The Patriarchy tried to escape but Bang Bang Gang appeared on the stage. Cage, Killswitch & The Waynes escaped through the crowd. Nick was met by Kip Sabian & he threw him over the barrier to ringside. The Bang Bang Gang threw Wayne in the ring and Black hits him with The End. Bang Bang Gang & House Of Black faced off in the ring to end the segment.

-A video recaps Sammy Guevara’s return on this week’s ROH TV.

-Lexy Nair was backstage with Dustin Rhodes & The Von Erichs. Rhodes spoke about how happy they are to team with each other and be the ROH 6 Man Tag Team Champions. Sammy Guevara entered and said for 5 years he was stuck in a vortex. He can now make his own decisions and wants to earn Rhodes’ & The Von Erichs’ trust by teaming with them. Rhodes & Guevara shook hands.

Tag Team Match
Premier Athletes (Ari Daivari & Tony Nese) vs. Hologram & Mistico

Premier Athletes took over briefly on Hologram before Hologram made the hot tag.

He & Mistico sent Premier Athletes to the floor as we go to a break.

After the break Premier Athletes works over Mistico before Mistico fought out of the attack and hot tagged Hologram & he cleans house.

Hologram attempted to pick Ari Daivari up for a suplex but was distracted by Smart Mark Sterling.

Hologram dove onto Sterling on the floor before he & Mistico sent Premier Athletes to the floor.

Hologram dove onto the pile at ringside & rolls Tony Nese back in the ring and hits him with a 450 splash for the win.

Winners: Hologram & Mistico

-A video recaps the storyline between Bryan Danielson, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland & Jeff Jarrett which set up Danielson vs. Jarrett for Dynamite.

-Women’s Champion Toni Storm came out for her scheduled match and attacks Mariah May at the announce table. They brawled all the way to the ring. Storm was attacked by Rache Chanel.

Non Title Match
Women’s Champion Toni Storm vs. Rache Chanel

Rache Chanel got in some brief offense before Toni Storm hits a hip attack in the corner then Storm Zero for the win.

Winner: Women’s Champion Toni Storm

-After the match Storm stared from the ring at May who was on the stage.

-Kyle Fletcher voiced over a video about his friendship with Will Ospreay. The video recaps the events from Dynamite which set up Fletcher vs. MJF for this coming week’s Dynamite.

-A video recaps MJF’s successful defense of the American Title against Templario at CMLL’s 91st Anniversary Show.

Kyle Fletcher vs. Brian Cage

They go out to the floor where Cage overpowers Kyle Fletcher.

Fletcher recovered and hit a running cannonball on the ramp as we go to a picture in picture break.

After the break Cage slams Fletcher off the 2nd rope.

They exchanged near falls down the stretch with Fletcher hitting a Tombstone Piledriver for the win.

Winner: Kyle Fletcher

-After the match Fletcher took the mic and talked about how MJF is a coward. He challenged MJF to put the American Title on the line on Dynamite. MJF appeared on the big screen and made fun of Fletcher’s accent and said he doesn’t deserve a shot at the title. He agreed to make the match an Eliminator match.

-After the break a video featured Bryan Danielson training with Wheeler Yuta for Danielson’s title match at All In. Danielson & Yuta both said he has never trained harder and that this is the biggest match of Danielson’s career.

-Backstage Renee Paquette is with The Jarretts, Sonjay Dutt & Jay Lethal. Lethal & Dutt complained about Hangman Page cost Jarrett opportunities at the AEW World Title. Karen Jarrett said Lethal & Dutt need to do something about Page. Jeff said both he & Page lost opportunities but he’s making the most of it. He spoke about how Swerve Strickland is the most dangerous man in AEW and that Bryan Danielson needs to be more than ready. He talked about Memphis and how they invented hardcore wrestling before it was called that. He then challenged Danielson to make their Dynamite match a Anything Goes Match.

Continental Title #1 Contenders Triple Threat Match
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Tomohiro Ishii vs. Lee Moriarty

Claudio Castagnoli & Tomohiro Ishii trading blows before all 3 men exchanged moves.

Lee Moriarty sent both Castagnoli & Ishii to the floor and dove onto them as we go to a picture in picture break. 

After the break all 3 men exchanged chops and moves until Castagnoli squared off with Ishii again.

There were a series of moves and near falls with many situations where Castagnoli or Ishii would hit a move on Moriarty only to have the other try to steal the pin.

Castagnoli hits Naturalizer on Moriarty with the pin being broken up by Ishii.

Ishii hit a sliding clothesline on Moriarty but Castagnoli pulls him out of the ring & hits a flying European uppercut for the win.

Winner & #1 Contender To The Continental Title: Claudio Castagnoli (Recommend)

-After the match Castagnoli offered a hand to Ishii but Ishii refused.

-After the break we go backstage Lexy Nair is with Top Flight along with Leila Grey before MxM Collection interrupted and criticized Top Flight’s outfit. Top Flight said MxM is now on their no fly list.

Thunder Rosa vs. Taya Valkyrie

Johnny TV distracted Thunder Rosa giving Valkyrie the advantage before Rosa retaliated with a sliding lariat as we go to a break.

After the break it was all Thunder Rosa until Johnny pulls Valkyrie to the floor.

Johnny’s distraction allowed Valkyrie to spear Rosa on the floor.

Back in the ring Valkyrie continued the attack but Rosa was able to fight back and hit Johnny with a sliding dropkick. Rosa reversed a German suplex attempt into a cobra clutch for the submission win.

Winner By Submission: Thunder Rosa

-After the match Rosa calls out Deonna Purrazzo. Purrazzo came out and wondered what Rosa wanted. She said Rosa was on a winning streak just like Purrazzo & she has beaten Rosa 3 times. Rosa challenged Purrazzo to a Texas Bullrope match for next week. Purrazzo didn’t actually accept and walked off.

8 Man Tag Team Match
Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Mike Bennett & Matt Taven) & The Beast Mortos vs. FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler), Mark Briscoe & Darby Allin

FTR, Mark Briscoe & Darby Allin works over Undisputed Kingdom before The Beast Mortos got some brief offense in but he was also overmatched.

The advantage shifted when Strong hit an Olympic slam on Cash Wheeler and threw him to the floor where he was attacked by Undisputed Kingdom & Mortos as we go to a break.

After the break Wheeler hits a bulldog on Matt Taven off the 2nd rope and tried to make the hot tag but Strong & Mike Bennett attacked Dax Harwood, Briscoe & Allin on the apron to prevent it.

Wheeler took down Strong with a headscissors and tags Briscoe in & he cleans house.

It was a series of moves resulting in near falls broken up by the other team including Proton Pack by Taven & Bennett as well as Jay Driller and Froggy Bow by Briscoe.

Mortos overpowered Harwood and worked him over while Undisputed Kingdom prevented the tag.

Harwood made the hot tag to Allin before Taven taking a superplex from Harwood, a splash from Wheeler, a Froggy Bow from Briscoe and a Coffin Drop from Allin for the win.

Winners: FTR, Mark Briscoe & Darby Allin

-After the match Harwood took the mic & says he loves professional wrestling and AEW. He referred to FTR, Briscoe & Allin as the life blood of AEW. This brought out The Acclaimed & Billy Gunn.

-Max Caster asked where FTR was when they were in Blood & Guts and fighting the Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Titles. He said that Wheeler isn’t even good enough to be on TV when Harwood is injured. Anthony Bowens added that they’ve earned everyone’s respect and are not sure what else they have to do. He said The Acclaimed was the only team that was home grown and FTR doesn’t get to cut the line to face Young Bucks. He reminded FTR that scoreboard says 1-0 in favor of the Acclaimed and that no one cares about FTR’s legacy. He told FTR to nut up or shut up.

-A shoving match ensued and Briscoe tried to play peacemaker saying This is what the Elite wants. FTR offered The Acclaimed a handshake but The Acclaimed walked off to close out Collision.
