Jeff Cobb to HENARE: I heard that WWE offered you a good contract
Jeff Cobb clarifies that WWE, at one point, offered stablemate HENARE a contract.
In the backstage comments portion of NJPW’s tenth night of the 34th G1 Climax, NJPW World TV champion Jeff Cobb gave props to his fellow United Empire faction member HENARE. Afterwards, Cobb clarified that he had heard HENARE had received an offer from World Wrestling Entertainment, only to take it to the office of NJPW and declare he would like to stay in the company.
I heard that WWE offered you a good contract. But you went to the New Japan office with a WWE contract in hand, put it on the desk in front of the president and said, ‘I want to stay here.’ You’re not the only one who wants to stay in New Japan and change this industry. I am too. It takes a lot of guts to tell that random organization to fuck off, to stay in the best organization in the world, and to prove yourself against the best wrestlers on the planet.

It’s unclear when exactly the contract was offered or how much the contract was worth, though it’s possible that it came while HENARE spent time away from the company due to a head injury. Video of the comments with English translation have yet to be uploaded to NJPW’s streaming site, NJPW World, but they can be found on NJPW’s Japanese website. Cobb defeated his stablemate by means of the Tour of the Islands powerslam to move to eight points in the G1’s B Block while HENARE stays at six points.
