The AEW locker room dynamics have been a major talking point this week following a heated altercation between Britt Baker and MJF. The incident has stirred up intense discussions among wrestling fans and industry insiders.
The confrontation originated from comments made by Britt Baker about MJF and his match with Will Ospreay and then escalated to MJF’s girlfriend and AEW’s interviewer, Alicia Atout, during the July 17th Dynamite show. These remarks were relayed to MJF through Atout, leading to a heated exchange between the two wrestlers. Will Ospreay intervened to mediate and address the issues with Baker, but tensions continued to rise. The situation reached a boiling point when MJF, visibly agitated, punched a wall backstage, underscoring the heightened emotions and stakes within the AEW locker room. Despite the conflict, Britt Baker continued to make appearances on television. Following a Human Resources-led investigation into the incident, Baker faced a brief suspension, and allegations of her verbal confrontation with Atout and a request for her removal from the women’s locker room were also probed.
In an interview with Jack King of Cultaholic Wrestling, MJF addressed the backstage confrontation, acknowledging that not everyone gets along in a workplace setting. He expressed his belief that the incident had been blown out of proportion, emphasizing the need for perspective in assessing conflicts within the wrestling industry.
“Tell me if this passes the smell test. I barge into a women’s locker room. and scream in the face of a 110 pound woman and then physically threaten her by punching a nearby wall…and I don’t get suspended. Does that pass the smell test? Almost everything that was written didn’t happen. Everyone has co-workers they don’t get along with. I have a feeling this was overblown because all the English wrestling commentary sites that make money off of people like me. I can sit here and say that wrestling is a very competitive sport. It generates a level of insecurity like no other. However, I can easily put over any talent regardless of whether or not I like them as a human being. I can sit here and say that Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Moné at Wembley on August 25 is going to be an epic bout and we should all be excited to see it. I don’t have to like all my mates and that’s fine. But yeah, man, that was wild to read.”

There was discontent among some AEW staff over the perceived lack of suspension for MJF following his clash with Britt Baker, but it should be noted that both wrestlers have been denying these reports of how the situation happened. Nevertheless, Britt Baker has already made a return to AEW television. In a recent interview, Deonna Purrazzo described the incident as an “isolated occurrence”.
