WWE Smackdown Results & Review (August 16th, 2024)

On August 16th, 2024 WWE aired the 1,304th episode of Smackdown live in Orlando Florida inside Amway Center.

-Kicking off this week’s Smackdown with a video recapping what happened between The Bloodline & Roman Reigns last week.

-Miss Money In The Bank Tiffany Stratton introduces Women’s Champion Nia Jax as Pretty Deadly stands by in costume and she makes her way down to the ring being carried in a throne.

-Stratton places Jax’s Women’s Title on her shoulder and Jax says that Stratton shouldn’t have. Stratton says she wanted everything to pop and asks Jax if she likes it. Jax says she appreciates Stratton but this isn’t her style. She says her style is more destruction and says she kept her word when she dethroned Bayley. She says she’s the new Women’s Title then demands the WWE Universe bow down.

-Pretty Deadly bows down and Jax demands Stratton bows down as well. Stratton tries talking her way out of bowing down and Pretty Deadly then presents their newest musical. Michin appears out of nowhere and hits Pretty Deadly with the kendo stick. She takes several shots at Jax then takes more shots at Pretty Deadly.

-Naomi, Bianca BelAir & Jade Cargill were shown backstage. They joked with each other and said they would take back their Women’s Tag Team Titles and Naomi would beat Blair Davenport later on tonight. Carmelo Hayes walked up and invited them to his after party for when he defeated Andrade. Cargill cracked a joke that Andrade was already 2 up on him so he better focus on that. The ladies walked off.

Non Title Match
Speed Champion Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes

Carmelo Hayes rolls out of the ring so Andrade follows him out there but Hayes slides back in.

Andrade lands a kick on Hayes’ head from the apron but Hayes fires off stomps and right hands on him.

Hayes connects with a springboard clothesline on Andrade then follows it up with a chop and a couple of right hands.

Andrade lands a dropkick then follows it up with a springboard moonsault off the middle rope on the outside.

Andrade gets Hayes back in the ring but Hayes slides out and hits a jawbreaker to Andrade off the top rope. Andrade then ascends to the top rope but Hayes pushes him off.

After the break Hayes ascends to the top rope but Andrade joins him up there and hits a Spanish Fly.

He goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out and connects with a superkick on Andrade.

Andrade hits 3 Amigos to Hayes but Hayes ascends to the top and looks to fly.

Andrade moves out of the way then levels Hayes and goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out and pins Andrade for the win.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes (Recommend)

-After the match Andrade & Hayes continue to brawl with one another but officials run down to the ring to break them up.

-We then head backstage to Solo Sikoa & Tama Tonga where Tonga hands Sikoa his lei & Sikoa say if Roman Reigns can take the lei then The Bloodline will acknowledge him.

-After the break we get a video package aired for Giovanni Vinci & he spoke about coming to Smackdown to win. 

Naomi vs. Blair Davenport

Blair Davenport shoves Naomi before Naomi hits a kick to Davenport’s midsection then connects with a split legged moonsault and a dropkick through the middle rope.

Naomi then hits a splash off the ring apron and ascends to the top rope before she lands a crossbody off the middle rope as we go to a break.

After the break Naomi & Davenport hit each other with crossbodies.

Naomi responds with an enzuigiri and a dropkick in the corner then looks to connect with a split legged moonsault. Davenport blocks her and connects with Kamigoye for the win.

Winner: Blair Davenport

-Backstage A Town Down Under badmouthed Kevin Owens and the fact that the Undisputed WWE Title match was handed to him. Grayson Waller called a match against Owens an easy dub and failed to notice Owens walking up from behind him. Owens told Waller that he was absolutely right and that they should go out to the ring so they could prove how easy his victory would be. Owens slaps both Waller & Austin Theory on the chest and said he would see them both out there.

-After the break we then head over to a tribute video for Afa Anoa’i following the news of his death earlier today.

Kevin Owens vs. Grayson Waller

Kevin Owens connects with a dropkick on Grayson Waller then hits him with a back elbow and follows it up with senton then charges at Waller.

Waller rolls out of the ring and Owens meets him there with a clothesline.

He sends Waller crashing into the barricade spine first then sends him colliding with the announce desk and gets him back in the ring. Austin Theory distracts Owens allowing Waller to level him.

Owens takes down Theory and sends him crashing over the barricade near the timekeeper’s area.

He sends Owens crashing into the barricade then connects with an elevated DDT and flies off the ropes to level him back in the ring.

Owens & Waller teeter on the ropes but Owens fires off headbutts on Waller and hits a Swanton Bomb.

He goes for a pin but Waller kicks out then looks to land a Rolling Stunner but Owens sees him coming.

He connects with a Stunner and a Pop Up Powerbomb for the win.

Winner: Kevin Owens

-After the match Owens dumps Waller out of the ring and sends him crashing into the big PRIME Hydration bottle at ringside. Theory helps out Waller then grabs a chair as Waller follows suit. Cody Rhodes’ music hits and he runs down to the ring. He grabs a chair as Owens does the same and they use them to hit on A Town Down Under. A Town Down Under retreat and Owens grabs Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Title before he forcefully hands it back to him.

-Solo Sikoa spoke to Tama Tonga again backstage and said tonight Roman Reigns needs to acknowledge him.

-After the break Santos Escobar interrupted a story at dinner and said they had gotten complacent about being disrespected. He said they needed to remind everyone about who they are. Escobar said their name is Legado Del Fantasma, and that’s a legacy as well as a name. He instructed them to focus and said he would send the trash LA Knight back to the trailer park where he belongs. 

-United States Champion LA Knight makes his way down to the ring. Knight says he wants to talk to fans then says he wants to talk to fans. He addresses Santos Escobar then warns him that there’s a BFT waiting for him next week in their United States Title match. He takes a few more shots at Escobar then says he’ll be walking out still holding the United States Title.

-Backstage Michin was approached by Chelsea Green & Piper Niven. They said they thought about doing what she did earlier but it was too much fun to sit back and watch the chaos. They said they tried to warn tacky time but she must not actually care about Nia Jax. Michin told them they should have came down to the ring because now she has a Women’s Title match. Green & Niven stormed into Nick Aldis’ office. Nia Jax then attacked Michin from behind and tossed her into a door and then an equipment crate. Nick Aldis emerged from his office and told her he wanted her in his office immediately.

WWE Tag Team Titles #1 Contenders Match
Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. DIY (Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano)

Match starts off with Montez Ford & Johnny Gargano lock up.

They take turns locking one another in submission holds before Angelo Dawkins & Tommaso Ciampa tag in.

They lock up and go back & forth before Ford tags in and Street Profits double team on DIY as we go to a break.

After the break Ford dumps Gargano onto the apron before Gargano responds with a spear to Ford through the middle rope then tags in Ciampa.

Ford sends Ciampa crashing into Gargano then tags in Dawkins.

Dawkins tosses Ciampa over to Ford & Ford catches him with a back suplex mid air.

Dawkins then ascends to the top and hits a Swanton Bomb but Ciampa moves out of the way and hits a running knee to Dawkins. Gargano tags in and Dawkins connects with a suplex.

Ford then tags in and both Gargano & Ford fly to level Dawkins & Ciampa on the outside respectively as we go to a 2nd break.

After the 2nd break Ford hits a 450 Splash off the top rope but Ciampa transitions into a pin but Ford kicks out and Gargano tags in.

DIY connects with Shatter Machine on him and set up for Meeting In The Middle but Dawkins pulls out of the ring and tags in. Street Profits then hits a spinebuster/neckbreaker combination to Ciampa.

Gargano tags back in and Gargano lands a superkick on Dawkins then they double team on Dawkins and go for a pin but Dawkins kicks out.

Gargano hits Ford on the outside with a tope suicida then looks to land a spear through the middle rope on Dawkins. Dawkins counters into a neckbreaker then tags in Ford.

Ford ascends to the top rope as Dawkins gets Gargano in an electric chair position & Ford lands a Blockbuster on Gargano for the win.

Winners & #1 Contenders To The WWE Tag Team Titles: Street Profits (Recommend)

-Solo Sikoa demands that Orlando acknowledges him then says if Roman Reigns wants his lei back then he has to come and get it.

-Reigns’ music hits and he makes his way out. He stares down Sikoa and they begin brawling with one another. Tonga goes after Reigns but Reigns levels him and dumps him out of the ring. Sikoa gets Reigns back in the ring and sets up for Samoan Spike but Reigns hits Sikoa with a Superman Punch and follows it up with a spear. Reigns grabs the lei and holds it up then puts it around his neck.

-Jacob Fatu blindsides Reigns and hits a hip attack to him. Sikoa begins to direct traffic and The Bloodline hits a triple powerbomb to Reigns through the announce desk. Tonga places the lei around Sikoa’s neck and The Bloodline holds up the One symbol to close out this week’s Smackdown.
