Remember the name.
During their biggest weeks of the year, CM Punk was preparing to fight his bitter rival, Drew McIntyre in his first televised singles match of 2024 while Belal Muhammad was training to rematch Leon Edwards, this time for the UFC Welterweight Championship.
Speaking with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Muhammad revealed he was supposed to go to WWE’s SummerSlam event, but couldn’t due to the fact that he had to travel to Abu Dhabi for his huge rematch.
“I want to be a tag team with Punk,” said Muhammad. “I was supposed to go to SummerSlam, but I went to Abu Dhabi for the UFC fight. I knew Punk was making his comeback, and I wanted to see it, and then I saw Jelly Roll in the ring, and I was thinking, ‘Hey, that could have been me!’”
In the end, it worked out fine for both men as Punk, despite losing, was in high spirits following his match with McIntyre while Muhammad dominated and defeated Edwards to become the new UFC Welterweight Champion in enemy territory and for the first time ever, Palestine got its first UFC Champion.
