WWE Smackdown Results & Review (August 30th, 2024)
On August 30th, 2024 WWE aired the 1,306th episode of Smackdown live in Berlin Germany inside the Uber Arena.
-Kicking off this week’s Smackdown with United States Champion LA Knight said it had been 27 years since WWE had held a major televised event in Berlin. Knight said who better to start things out than him. Knight issued the open challenge for a shot at his United States Title.
-Ludwig Kaiser made his entrance and played to his home country crowd and spoke briefly in German. Kaiser said he would beat Knight in the capital of his home country then take it across the pond and make it his own personal European Champion.
-Knight said that was impressive coming from Gunther’s stooge. Knight said Kaiser could do whatever he wants with the United States Title but the problem is he needed to win it and he would not do that. Knight said the fans in Germany and around the world could pledge allegiance to the United States Champion. Knight & Kaiser went nose 2 nose while Cole called out for a referee as the show went to break.
United States Title Match
LA Knight (c) vs. Ludwig Kaiser
Match starts off with a lock up and LA Knight shoves Ludwig Kaiser then fires off stomps on him in the corner.
Kaiser whips Knight into the adjacent corner then hits a chop to him and fires off boots on his midsection.
Knight runs over Kaiser with a clothesline but Kaiser sends him crashing into the ring apron spine first on the outside.
He then sends Knight colliding with the ring steps and takes a lap around the ring to build up momentum for a dropkick as we go to a break.
After the break Knight & Kaiser exchange right hands with one another.
Knight fires off shoulders on Kaiser’s midsection then lands a chop on him and clotheslines him out of the ring.
He sends Kaiser’s head repeatedly bouncing off the announce desk and they get back inside the ring.
Knight ascends up to the middle rope and connects with an elbow drop then fires off stomps on him in the corner.
Knight & Kaiser fire off right hands on one another before Knight connects with a powerslam on Kaiser.
Kaiser responds with a knee and Kaiser Roll then goes for a pin but Knight kicks out.
Knight then hits a sidewalk slam and follows it up with BFT for the win.
Winner & Still United States Champion: LA Knight (STILL CHAMPION!!!)
-A video package aired on the World Heavyweight Title at Bash In Berlin.
-After the break we get a Nia Jax video package aired.
Tag Team Match
Los Garza (Humberto & Angel) vs. Apollo Crews & Baron Corbin
Apollo Crews lands a dropkick on Humberto then follows it up with a delayed vertical suplex and goes for a pin but Humberto kicks out.
Baron Corbin & Angel tag in and Corbin runs over Los Garza with a clothesline.
He rains down right hands on Angel in the corner but Angel trips him.
Corbin sends Angel crashing into the corner then fires off right hands on Corbin as Humberto tags in and does the same.
Los Garza hits a double enzuigiri to Corbin but Corbin dumps him out of the ring.
Crews sends Angel to join Humberto with a hurricanrana then flies over the top rope with some help from Corbin as we go to a break.
After the break Los Garza double teams on Crews before Angel hits a splash to Crews in the corner then charges at Crews. Crews moves out of the way and Angel is sent crashing into the ring post shoulder first.
Corbin then tags in and levels Los Garza then sends Angel crashing into the mat and hits a clothesline to Humberto.
Corbin connects with a modified Sliced Bread on Humberto then goes for a pin but Angel breaks the fall.
Angel hits a crossbody to Crews off the ropes but Crews catches him with a pair of German suplexes and looks to land one on Humberto. Humberto lands on his feet and hits a springboard crossbody to Crews.
Elektra Lopez hops up on the apron and distracts the referee and Crews as Santos Escobar sends Corbin crashing into the ring steps. Humberto looks to take advantage and rolls up Crews but Crews kicks out.
Crews ascends up the ropes but Angel distracts him & this opens the door for Berto to join Crews up there and send him crashing into the mat.
Angel then tags in and Humberto tosses Crews over to Angel who’s waiting with a knee to his midsection for the win.
Winners: Los Garza
-A Bloodline video aired with Solo Sikoa seated a a table while WWE Tag Team Champions Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa stood next to him and Jacob Fatu stood behind him. Sikoa recalls taking out Jimmy Uso, Paul Heyman & Roman Reigns. Sikoa said he took the right to be the Tribal Chief. Sikoa said if he did that to his own family then imagine what they will do to the 4 of you. Sikoa said that regardless of who wins the WWE Title match at Bash In Berlin, the Tribal Chief is coming.
-Nick Aldis wishes Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes & Kevin Owens the best of luck tomorrow night in their Undisputed WWE Title match then exits the ring leaving Rhodes & Owens by themselves. Owens asks Rhodes what he wants to talk about and Rhodes says he wants to talk about his title.
-Owens says they could talk about that, but he has something he wants to talk about. He asks Rhodes if he wants to talk about what happened to his knee during the WWE Live Events this past week in Netherlands and Germany and Rhodes insists that his knee is fine. Rhodes then brings up what happened last week when it looked like Owens was going to hit Rhodes with the Undisputed WWE Title and Owens says he & Rhodes have always been close since the moment they met and even prior given the relationship he had with Dusty Rhodes.
-Owens asks Rhodes why he would be angry with him and Rhodes says Owens may feel as though he gets all the credit for the shift in wrestling between 2015 and 2016 while Owens gets none of it. Owens says he doesn’t need to hit Rhodes with a cheap shot. Rhodes questions if Owens still thinks that he doesn’t deserve a shot at the Undisputed WWE Title and Owens brings up Rhodes’ knee again. He points out that Rhodes didn’t kneel on the entrance ramp as usual then says if Rhodes walks into their match not at 100%, what happens when he beats him.
-Rhodes once again insists that his knee is all good then says Owens is just pretending to be confident. He tells Owens that he loves him but questions if they’ll still be friends after tomorrow night. Owens then whispers something to Rhodes and storms up the ramp.
-Apollo Crews & Baron Corbin were walking through the backstage area when they encountered A Town Down Under. Grayson Waller said Austin Theory was just saying that Crews & Corbin are not half the team that they are. Corbin took offense. Theory confirmed saying it. Crews pulled Corbin away.
-Theory got upset with Waller for repeating what he said. Theory said he thinks they are falling apart. Waller said it’s just banter and it’s what they do in Australia. Waller said Theory is his best mate and apologized. Theory accepted the apology.
-After the break the latest Giovanni Vinci vignette aired & showing he will debut next week.
Non Title Match
Speed Champion Andrade vs. Carmelo Hayes
Andrade & Carmelo Hayes waste no time firing off right hands on one another.
Andrade hits a corkscrew to level Hayes on the outside then connects with a chop and dumps him back inside the ring.
Hayes lands a springboard clothesline on Andrade but Andrade hangs Hayes by his knees off the middle turnbuckle and connects with a double stomp to his chest as we go to a break.
After the break Andrade runs over Hayes with a back elbow and follows it up with a dragon screw to him.
He kips up and ascends up to the middle rope then looks to land a moonsault.
Hayes rolls out of the way but Andrade immediately lands a 2nd one.
Hayes responds with The First 48 and a Meteora then goes for a pin but Andrade kicks out.
Hayes then lands a kick on Andrade but Andrade responds with 3 Amigos.
Hayes lands on his feet on the 2nd one but Andrade then sends him crashing into the mat.
Hayes catches Andrade with a superkick and goes for a pin but Andrade kicks out.
Andrade & Hayes then hits a springboard Spanish Fly to each other and Andrade pins Hayes but Hayes kicks out as we go to a 2nd break.
After the 2nd break Andrade connects with a back elbow on Hayes then goes for a pin but Hayes kicks out.
Hayes sends Andrade crashing into one of the top turnbuckles that has been exposed then follows it up with Nothing But Net for the win.
Winner: Carmelo Hayes
-A sponsored video package aired on Jade Cargill & Bianca BelAir. They were interviewed separately and were shown finishing each other’s sentences. They also spoke about going for the Women’s Tag Team Titles at Bash In Berlin.
-Michin walked backstage with a kendo stick over her shoulder and said she fought her whole life for this. She said that you can like her or hate her but you won’t forget her once she wins the title.
Women’s Title Street Fight
Nia Jax (c) vs. Michin
After the break Jax hits a chokeslam to Michin on the ramp.
She then sets a table up in the corner and looks to drag Michin back in the ring but Michin sprays a fire extinguisher in the face and follows it up with a dropkick off the middle rope.
She looks to land a Tornado DDT on Jax on top of a garbage can but Jax sees her coming and sends her crashing into the garbage can face first.
Michin then hits Jax with a pair of garbage can lids and lands a tornado DDT to her on top of them before she sets up a table in the ring.
Michin grabs another garbage can from under the ring and dumps it in the ring.
Jax clocks Michin with a chair in the ring then gets her up on the table and sets up for the An Nia Lator.
Michin escapes and lands a powerbomb on Jax through the table.
Tiffany Stratton runs down to the ring and hits Michin with her Money In The Bank briefcase.
She considers cashing it in but decides against it when Jax sees her.
Stratton then places Jax on top of Michin to pin her but Michin kicks out.
Bayley then runs down to the ring and hits Stratton with a clothesline then dumps her over the barricade near the timekeeper’s area.
Back in the ring Michin rolls up Jax but Jax kicks out.
Jax then hits a Samoan Drop to Michin through the table she previously set up in the corner then places a garbage can on her and connects with the An Nia Lator for the win.
Winner & Still Women’s Champion: Nia Jax (STILL CHAMPION!!!)
-After the match Jax gets in a couple more shots on Michin with the kendo stick as she’s still stuck in the garbage can. She holds up the Women’s Title.
