The lows:

  • Vickie Guerrero appears

If that sounds like we’re being harsh on the former General Manager of Smackdown…it’s because we are. But for good reason.

A little over a year ago, Sherilyn Guerrero — daughter of Vickie and legendary pro wrestler Eddie Guerrero, took to TikTok to offer up some startling, and deeply upsetting insight into her family; namely, the relationship between her and her mother, sister, and Vickie’s current husband, Kris Benson. In the video, Guerrero stated that her step-father, Vickie’s husband, sexually assaulted her on a cruise ship in 2020.

“I didn’t want to make this because I’m so tired of crying,” Guerrero stated at the beginning of her video. “But I also feel like this is gonna help me not feel like I’m keeping this giant secret.”

Guerrero said that her family was well known which is why it took her so long to come out with the story, because it makes them look bad.

“I have protected them for so long that I feel nobody is protecting me, so I need to start protecting me,” she said.

Then, Guerrero shared what happened.

“Come 2020, right before COVID, there was a cruise that my family went on and basically on this cruise, um, I got sexually assaulted,” Guerrero said. “And the unfortunate part is that it was my stepdad. Yeah, it was my stepdad.”

Guerrero dropped another bombshell as well.

“Was I the only one?” she rhetorically asked. “No, but that’s not my business to put their story out there. But it happened to me.”

Guerrero stated that after the event, COVID happened and the world shut down.

She said that she lived with Vickie and Benson throughout the pandemic, but she became “mute” and “numb.”

“I worked my ass off to get out of there and get my own apartment, which I got in September of 2020,” Guerrero shared. “That same year, I really did everything I could to not only protect my mom, but keep the peace and to just get on with my life.”

Guerrero said she injured her knee in 2021, and that Vickie was helping her after the injury.

“There was basically a conversation,” Guerrero said. “I have told my mom how uncomfortable I am with him after it happened. And basically, she was always telling me ‘It was a mistake; it’s not who he is.’ Just kind of like, ‘I’m sorry, that’s not my problem,’ type of deal. And I never really felt like she protected me.”

Guerrero said that her mother believed that Benson was supporting not only Vickie, but her as well.

“Moral of the story is, she thought ‘I owe this man everything. I owe him respect. I owe him all this stuff,” Guerrero shared. “Last time I checked, anybody that handles me like that, physically, doesn’t get my respect. And I really tried to tell my mom that but she took it as a way of disrespect to her and her relationship. And that meaning, she doesn’t want anything to do with me if I disrespect her relationship.”

Guerrero said that her mother has blocked her phone number.

“Like, I can’t even call my mom and she’s the closest family I know to me,” Guerrero said.

Guerrero also shared that her sister, Shaul Guerrero, has said that she didn’t want to be in the middle of the situation.

“I feel like it’s honestly affecting a lot of my relationships and I don’t want it to because that’s not me,” Guerrero said. “And I don’t want to have this anger anymore.”

Guerrero stated that family members haven’t wished her a happy birthday, or a Merry Christmas, nor have they tried to contact her when another family member passed away. She also stated that she has been in ‘fight or flight mode’ as she has tried to ‘protect them in their careers.’

“I am here with open arms and I know that my family has a lot of healing to do, as do I,”
she said. “But I actually have to start healing now, instead of waiting for them to come around.

Guerrero asked that people respect her journey and respect the video that she posted. She said she’s not trying to ‘bring anything’ to her family; these were just facts.

“I’m done being silent,” she stated. “I’m just saying my piece and I’m gonna continue what I keep doing, and building a life for myself because I have to support myself and provide for myself. I literally wish [my family] well. I miss them and I love them and I wish that we could talk and I hope one day we do…”

@sherilyn_guerrerooo

I have waited so long and tried my hardest to put it all behind me but its time i start MY healing journey. Im done being silent, its not helping my mental health. I could never fit this into 3 minutes anyways so i feel the fact im allowed 10 minutes, well its the best way i can sum up everything. Please respect my family & i want nothing but love for them…. I am done being silent though while they go on not worried about me, its time i worry about myself ❤️

After the TikTok video was posted, Vickie Guerrero took to social media herself, penning a since-deleted Instagram post that not only victim blamed and shamed her daughter, but also defended her husband without even denying that he actually assaulted her.

“There are two sides to a story!” Vickie wrote. “Over 15 years my relationship with Sherilyn has been hostile and I have tried to deal with a narcissist person. Not only myself but close friends of Sherilyn of over 10 years and family have cut ties with her because of her manic behaviors.

“I tried to do therapy with Sherilyn but she always said NO and that I am sick not her. Sherilyn please tell your side of your character of being drunk on the cruise and having guys in your room then crying because you think you were raped then demanded us to go to a pharmacy in Bahamas for Plan B. You want to play dirty and sling Kris and I thru the mud….I have my own pile of mud FROM YOU.”

Vickie continued, seemingly justifying the alleged assault by saying that her husband bought Sherilyn cars and apartments.

“Are you enjoying the 2 cars that Kris bought you, the 3 apartments you bailed out of, and the 2 surgeries we paid for you. Your lies will catch up and I feel bad for you,” she continued.

“Sherilyn, not once have you spoken to Kris about the situation, but you can go on social media and tell all….but that’s how you communicate….another example of you manipulating and harassing others.

“I am so done with you and tired of the years of your manipulation, lies, and disrespect. I kept quiet for years because you never seeked [SIC] therapy to learn how to have an adult conversation with me. It has always been your way or nothing at all. Ok Sherilyn, not only will I see you in court but you and I will no longer be related.

“For the fans who feel entitled to comment…F–K YOU….you hear one side of a story and you feel entitled to comment on something you know nothing about.”

Following this ordeal, Vickie was quietly let go by All Elite Wrestling and has spent most of the last few years out of the public spotlight.

That is, until she appeared on Friday’s debut episode of Smackdown on the USA Network.

Not only did Vickie get a shoutout on the live episode; she also got interview time on the WWE’s social media channels.

While Sherilyn’s allegations are just that — allegations — some fans were extremely disheartened by Vickie’s presence.

Seriously, he was about to hit his signature pose.

Friday was a big night for WWE. But it also reinforced that when it comes to alleged sexual perpetrators and/or their defenders, it’s always one step forward, two steps back for the company.
