Interview with the Popping Sugar Rabbit, The Real Life Magical Girl, Mizuki

A “magical girl” in Japanese pop culture refers to a younger girl with magical powers or abilities. I love to compare Mizuki to a real life magical girl, not only is she super strong, but she is the essence of cuteness! A deadly combo! I was able to score a interview with Tokyo Joshi’s real life magical girl, Mizuki. I asked her 10 questions covering all kinds of topics in joshi.

Q: At Wrestle Princess 5 you will be facing the team of VENY and Yuki Kamifuku. Not only that but you’ll be teaming with the debuting Xia Zhao. What are your thoughts heading into this match?
A: I can only speak Japanese, but I want to communicate with Xia and fight in my own way!

“Xia Zhao” is formerly WWE’s “Xia Li”. After her release from the company, Xia has made her way over to Japan to fight for TJPW.

Q: TJPW got an influx of rookies recently, who do you think stands out? Anyone you’re keeping an eye on?
A: I think the rookies have a lot of momentum. A rookie to watch….I often work with Shino [Suzuki], so I am looking forward to her growth.

Shino Suzuki is a member of TJPW’s idol wrestling group “Up Up Girls”, she can often be seen wearing her group color green.

Q: You’ve formed a tag team with SAKI, known as “Usapopo MaxHeart”. You two have won the Asia Dream Tag Team titles. What are your hopes for this team?

A: We lost the Asia Dream Tag titles, but we dont want to end on a losing note, so we’ll keep working hard until the day we can work together again!

The Asia Dream Tag titles are championships for the promotion “Gatoh Move”.

Q: You helped Nao Kakuta graduate from TJPW recently by partcipating in her final match with her. Do you have a favorite memory with Kakuta?

A: We spent a lot of time laughing and crying together, but I remeber how loud Nao was backstage!

“Graduate” is the term TJPW uses to refer to when someone leaves the company.

Q: TJPW frequently collaborates with DDTPro ansd you have had many matches and moments with the company. Do you have a favorite one?
A: I remember I enjoyed the 10-man tag team match at Ryogoku Kokugikan because I felt like I was in the atmosphere of DDT’s fun!

Ryoguku Kokugikan is a popular spot to have pro-wrestling matches in Japan.

Q: You’ve spent time in Singapore Pro Wrestling and I wanted to get your thoughts on them. How have you liked your time in Singapore? Alexis Lee got to debut for TJPW recently, and I also wanted your thoughts on her hard work getting to TJPW.

A: In Singapore, she took me sightseeing and shopping! Alexis is very sweet and I was happy to see her again at TJPW!

Q: TJPW has been getting bigger every year, what is a big hope or goal you have for the company that you want to achieve?

A: A show at Nippon Budokan and Tokyo Dome!!! With all the players and everyone who is supporting us!

Tokyo Dome could be equivalent to Madison Square Garden in America

Q: Is there anything you still want to achieve in your career? Anything you haven’t been able to accomplish yet?

A:There are many things I want to accomplish, like winning a belt or putting on a show at a big venue, but above all, I want to be able to deliever something wonderful and love that will help those who meet me.

Q: Joshi wrestling has reached an all-time high recently, not just in Japan, but worldwide. What are your feelings about seeing joshi reaching such a new audiance, at such a rapid pace?

A: I want to bring TJPW to everyone in the world!

Q: How do you feel about the current state of joshi? Do you feel it is in good hands? Is there anything you want to see happen in the next few years?

A: Whether things are going well or not, as long as there are people who are watching, I will fight with all my might. I hope TJPW will reach more people and become an organization loved by many! I will do my best!
