AEW Dynamite Review (September 18th, 2024)

On September 18th, 2024 AEW aired the 259th episode of Dynamite live in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania inside Mohegan Sun Arena.

Note: This review will be shorter then normal as it be the last few mins of the match.

-Kicking off this week’s Dynamite with Jon Moxley, Trios Champion Claudio Castagnoli & Marina Shafir walking into the building as well as Darby Allin skateboarding in from another section.

Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy comes back with Beach Break then a cover but Chris Jericho kicks out again.

Bryan Keith runs out as Mark Briscoe runs out and starts fighting with him.

As Aubrey Edwards is distracted by this Jericho tries to use a roll of quarters just for Cassidy to steal it from him and hits Orange Punch with the quarters to get the win.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

-We see footage from after Dynamite last week as Trios Champion PAC is asking Wheeler Yuta where he is. They are still the Trios Champions and they haven’t heard from him. Next week, they have a title defense and Yuta better show up. Claudio Castagnoli says he’s disappointed as he thought he told Yuta better and tells him to do him a favor and show up next week. Jon Moxley chimes in and says that Yuta has the strength inside him to do the right thing and it’s his choice. He’s free to leave and he’s not trapped but he has a personal responsibility to the greater good and he has to look himself in the mirror every morning into what kind of a man did they teach him to be.

-Alex Marvez is getting word from Trios Champion Wheeler Yuta as he is leaving the arena and asks him what we just saw. Yuta says he’s conflicted and says he worked his entire career and has to focus on WrestleDream as Marvez tells him it’s Grand Slam, not WrestleDream. A stagehand gives him the Trios Title that he forgot behind as Yuta quotes Bryan Danielson and says if they want to defend these Trios Titles at Grand Slam then next week he will kick who’s ever ass he has to.

Non Title Match
FTW Champion Hook vs JD Ink

JD Ink starts talking trash at the bell but gets clotheslined down by Hook before he’s hit with a pair of suplexes.

Hook hits 1 more over the head suplex before dropping cross faces and puts on Redrum as the referee calls off the match.

Winner By Submission: FTW Champion Hook

-After the match Hook & Roderick Strong trade some words before Hook leaves to the back.

-Alex Marvez is backstage as Private Party & they said they are ready to fight and will accept their challenge for next week before Isiah Kassidy calls out Jon Moxley as well.

-After the break Renee Paquette is with The Patriarchy as Christian Cage says he wants to talk about Nick Wayne’s match this Friday on Rampage against Rocky Romero, Lio Rush & Kip Sabian as they have decided for him and Wayne to hold titles at the same time. Cage tells Paquette might not agree as Jon Moxley is also going after that title. Wayne walks off to talk to Sabian who’s there. Cage tells Sabian to leave them alone and if he sees his face again he will put him in the dirt right next to his father.

Tag Team Match
Women’s Champion Mariah May & Serena Deeb vs. Yuka Sakazaki & Queen Aminata

Yuka Sakazaki hits Serena Deeb with a Merry Go Round sending Deeb to the outside where she hits everybody with a springboard splash.

Sakazaki sends Deeb back inside and hits Magical Girl Splash but Mariah May breaks up the pin by hitting Yuka with her Women’s Title causing a disqualification.

Winners By DQ: Yuka Sakazaki & Queen Aminata

-After the match May starts whipping Sakazaki with the title before standing tall raising the title.

-We go to a video from Mina Shirakawa who says she watched May win the championship at Wembley Stadium but now May has changed and she doesn’t like what she has become. They had so many good times together and they could have more, so if they want to celebrate then for everybody to get ready because Mina is coming.

-After some technical difficulties, they go to a video for Nigel McGuinness where they show the history between McGuinness & Bryan Danielson in Ring of Honor with words from Mark Briscoe, Roderick Strong & Jerry Lynn where they say Nigel wanted to be seen in the same way that Danielson has over the years.

-Before Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley & Marina Shafir can make it to the ring, they get attacked in the crowd by Private Party. Castagnoli takes Marq Quen inside where he hits him with a couple of big chokebreakers as Shafir & Moxley start dragging and attacking Isiah Kassidy around the ring. Moxley holds Kassidy as Shafir starts kicking away at him and Komander shows up in the ring and kicks Castagnoli off the apron before trying to dive onto him but gets stopped with an uppercut.

-Shafir then spots Alex Abrahantes & she takes him out and steals his mic as Castagnoli press slams Komander into the crowd. Moxley gets on the mic and says he can end Private Party’s careers for what they just did but he won’t do that. He brings up how they have been here since the beginning and have been in the same exact spot as they have been 5 years ago and he will give Private Party some resistance and an obstacle to overcome and says to consider this a gift before smashing Kassidy’s hand with a hammer. As they head back towards the ring Darby Allin runs out and takes out Castagnoli from behind with his skateboard. Moxley & Allin end up in the ring and have a face off before Moxley ducks a shot from the skateboard and escapes. Allin gets on the mic and says he’s not the same guy he was 5 years ago and he will take out Moxley and then head into WrestleDream in his home state to become the AEW World Champion.

-We see a produced video for TNT Champion Jack Perry showing his recent matches as we see him driving in his Scapegoat bus as he says those who shape the future carry the burden by destroying the path.

The Beast Mortos vs. Ricochet

The Beast Mortos tries a powerbomb but Ricochet turns it into a Code Red on the outside.

Back inside Ricochet hits a springboard 450 splash then a cover but Mortos kicks out at two.

Ricochet heads to the top rope but Mortos joins and press slams Ricochet off for two.

Ricochet counters Mortos with a Crucifix Bomb before hitting Vertigo to get the win.

Winner: Ricochet (Recommend)

-Tony Schiavone is in the ring and introduces Hangman Page. Schiavone brings up how Page got the win over Swerve Strickland but how Page says it’s not done and gave a warning to anyone who would support or have Strickland’s back and asks what exactly he was talking about. Page says he knew a day like this would come when Strickland was dealt with and he would be gone and he knew that it wouldn’t be just Swerve who had to pay, as there would be dozens of others who stood behind him, protected and supported him. Page says he is surrounded by them now as they would cheer him all the way to the world championship and when he was finally locked in a cage with his fate. When he hears those voices he is reminded of the 4 months when he sat home suspended and then he remembers hearing another voice cheering him on, loud and clear before pointing his attention over to Schiavone. Page starts cornering Schiavone before Jeff Jarrett’s music plays as he runs out but gets attacked by Page who then sends him to the outside and tosses him into the crowd. They continue brawling around the ring before Page tosses Jarrett back in and tries Buckshot Lariat but security and officials get in between to keep them apart.

-Jarrett gets on the mic and says he wouldn’t stand back there and let Page lay a finger on Schiavone and there’s a whole locker room who wants to kick Page’s ass but Jarrett is in the front of the line and makes Page a promise to him, that if it’s the last thing he does in his career. Somehow and someplace, Jarrett will kick Page’s ass.

-Renee Paquette is in the back with Ricochet but Will Ospreay interrupts and congratulates him for his win and tries to shake his hand. Ricochet says Ospreay doesn’t have to be sorry for anything but he got his wins up like Ospreay told him to. From Ricochet’s perspective though, it’s been people calling him out and it seems like everybody is worried more about Ricochet than they are about Ospreay as he doesn’t see anybody trying to call him out so he does. He knows Ospreay is busy next week but he hopes he’s not too busy the following week so on October 2nd at the 5 year anniversary he got himself an International Title match against Ospreay. Ricochet ends this by saying he will be seeing Ospreay real soon, Little bro.
