Former WWE Star Says Triple H Stole His Gimmick

It’s time to play the gimmick infringement.

Shane Douglas Says HHH Stole His Gimmick

From Connecticut prick to silly DX member, to The Game, Triple H changed his character in the late 90’s to become one of the top heels in the wrestling business. More than 20 years on, former ECW and WWE star Shane Douglas has explained why he took exception to The Game’s character change.

Shane Douglas was a top star in ECW’s from 1993 to 1999 where he won the ECW World Championship four times. Toward the end of the decade, Triple H ended his D-Generation X persona became a big time heel.

In a recent WSI interview, Shane Douglas remembers when The Game allegedly steal one of his promos for TV.

I’m finishing up putting a sandwich together and I come around the corner and I hear, ‘It’s my belt, it’s my belt, it’s my damn belt,’ and I went, ‘That’s why it [similarities] scratched my brain.’ That was my promo almost verbatim, except I used the F-bomb, not damn. Borrowing’s one thing, I would be embarrassed to take somebody’s promo, especially a fairly famous promo, and word-for-word make it mine.

Is Shane Douglas just falling victim to coincidence, or is he telling the truth?
