Bodyslam.net Exclusive Interview with the QPW Qatar Champion El Reverso
El Reverso has been a very familiar face on the Ontario indy pro wrestling scene for many years. The extremely talented El Reverso has quite an impressive resume which includes numerous appearances for TNA/IMPACT.
On October 20th, in front of his hometown Windsor fans, El Reverso achieved the biggest victory of his career when he defeated Classy Ali to win the QPW Qatar Championship at the second Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling event.
El Reverso joined Bodyslam.net’s Lewis Carlan for an exclusive interview as he discussed his huge title win and future plans.
Here is that interview with the QPW Qatar Champion El Reverso:
Q: At MLP Forged In Excellence, you defeated Classy Ali, who held the title for 598 days, to become the new QPW Qatar Champion. How does it feel to be the new champ?
El Reverso: It’s an amazing feeling. I’ve been a champion in Ontario, in Nova Scotia, but never in another country. It’s a huge accomplishment as well. I hope to represent QPW well during my time as their champion.
Q: What were you thoughts of Classy Ali as an opponent?
El Reverso: Ali was exceptionally strong and on top of holding the title for nearly 600 days, he has never been pinned until that night. I am really happy that I was able to provide that moment for the fans in Windsor.
Q: Where does this win rank among your accomplishments in professional wrestling?
El Reverso: It’s the biggest win of my career, and it’s not just because I became QPW Champion, I don’t want you to get me wrong though that title alone would be the biggest accomplishment of my career. Earlier today though I read a post on X that listed the winners from night two of “Forged in Excellence”. That list consisted of Konosuke Takeshita, Athena Palmer and me. In fact there were four Canadians trying to bring international titles to Canadian soil over the course of the weekend. Mike Bailey, Josh Alexander, Gisele Shaw and me. And somehow I’m the one who managed to bring home the QPW championship. It’s without a doubt the biggest win of my career.
Q: Tell me the experience being part of the inaugural MLP events.
El Reverso: There was a buzz from the moment word broke that this would be a possibility. And in reflection I feel more motivated and more impassioned than before. This has been the biggest platform in which I have been able to showcase my skills, and it’s a platform that has been made by Canadians for Canadians. It’s a mission statement of ours that no more will young wrestlers looking to make a name for themselves, never will they have to take the risks that others like us have. The reality of the moment wasn’t lost on any of us. I put out a post on X that said “we were fighting for MLP, but we were also fighting for ourselves and for the future of pro wrestling in Canada.” There was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that went into “Forged in Excellence” – I know because I was shedding some myself. But I would do it again in a heart beat, and I would do it one thousand times more. Because we all knew that if we’ve done our jobs well enough that we were putting shovels into the ground on an institution that could survive and thrive in Canada long after I’ve passed from this earth.
Q: Do you know yet who you will be defending the title against first and if not, is there anyone in mind you’d like to give the first shot too?
El Reverso: My first opponent is Classy Ali. He is entitled to his Champions rematch under QPW’s rules. So now I am going to Qatar to compete against Ali at QPW’s November 15th event “Vertical Limit”.
Q: What can QPW expect from you now that you as the champion of the promotion and are you ready to travel to Qatar to defend your new championship?
El Reverso: I feel QPW’s November show is appropriately named. Because I plan to take this title to its highest point, and there is no better high flyer to do it than me. I plan to take a few extra risks in Doha on the 15th, because lately those risks have been paying off.
Q: Could we expect a title defense on a future MLP event?
El Reverso: It is my plan to come home with that title. I don’t want to lose it. Just because I wasn’t born there doesn’t mean I can’t represent them well.
Q: Thank you El Reverso and good luck!
El Reverso: Thanks Lewis, hopefully we can talk again about my experience there. And it is still as QPW champion.
