Booker T: The One Thing That Worked Against Ryback Being A Star Was Being Compared To Bill Goldberg

Booker T talked about Ryback.

When he reinvented himself and burst onto the scene in 2012, Ryback looked like he was going to be the next big powerhouse that no one in the WWE could stop. However, as his matches went by, many fans chanted the name of Bill Goldberg who Ryback looked like a copy of, especially with the match lengths and certain move set which Booker T, the WWE Hall of Famer, would go on to say was the big reason why Ryback wasn’t a star in the WWE.

“It definitely looked like it was going to peak out to be something huge,” Booker said. “The thing is, I think it had the potential to be. But I think with the fans wanting to do the ‘Goldberg’ thing, it was always going to be hard to break out of that. I think that was the one thing that Ryback had that was working against him more than anything, [it] was people seeing Goldberg when they saw Ryback. And why? I don’t know. I don’t know…was it the gear, was it the look…That could be it. But I think that was…I really believe that was Ryback’s biggest hurdle.” Booker T. said on his Hall of Fame podcast.

Ryback would get his release from the WWE down the line, and since then, he has teased that somebody in Saudi Arabia told him they would like to book Ryback vs. Goldberg if the timing and money were right.
