Eddie Hearn On Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: I Just Don’t Want To See Him In The Ring Again At 58, That’s It

Not Eddie’s cup of tea.

Mike Tyson Back In The Ring

Mike Tyson steps back in the ring one more time at 58 years old to battle Jake Paul this Friday, November 15 live on Netflix. One person who will be in attendance for the fight is fight promotor Eddie Hearn, who will be there on behalf of Katie Taylor, who fights in the co-main event against Amanda Serrano with the  IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO women’s super-lightweight titles on the line. Though Eddie represents Katie, and will be at the event, he’s been very outspoke on how he does not like the idea of Mike Tyson stepping back not the ring.

Eddie has even went as far to say he will leave the event and not watch the main event. Now, while speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Eddie was asked if he is serious about actually leaving and not watching the main event.

Yeah, I don’t know. You know, a lot of people ask my opinion. Sometimes it gets me, not into trouble, but obviously it can ruffle some feathers of the MVP guys. I don’t really, I’m not looking to go out and talk about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. I just get asked about it in every interview and I’ve always been straight with people, I’ve always been honest. I’m not going to brown-nose people, I’m not going to, like, I’m not calling for this fight to be banned, all I’m saying is, it’s not my cup of tea. I grew up around boxing since I was seven years old. Mike Tyson was probably my, one of my greatest heroes in the sport. I just don’t want to see him in the ring again at 58, that’s it. Listen, commercially I get it all. It’s going to do great numbers. People are going to make a lot of money, it’s fine. I’m not, again, you’re not going to see me pick-card or whatever it’s called outside of the arena like “stop the fight! Stop the fight!” But, it’s just the world we live in today. And, a long time ago, I made the decision, probably cost me a lot of money, to stay true to my passion for the sport and move away from that kind of thing. And, it just doesn’t sit right with me. Again, like, I get it, I wish everybody the best of luck, But I’m allowed to say “Oh, I don’t really want to see it, I don’t want to see Mike Tyson in that fight.” But, a lot of people will see it and I’m sure it’ll do great business and I wish everybody the best of luck.

Yet, Eddie will at least be in the building for the co-main event and cheering on Katie Taylor against Amanda Serrano, which Eddie Hearn says is Katie’s biggest payday yet in the sport. You can see the full card here.
