Tom Aspinall: Jon Jones Ducked Francis Ngannou For Three Years
Is Jon Jones ducking?
Unification Title Fight?
Jon Jones is the current heavyweight champion in UFC. Tom Aspinall is the current interim heavyweight champion. Yet, they’re not fighting. Instead, Jones is facing Stipe Miocic this Saturday at UFC 309 and if he wins, he says he won’t fight Tom. This led to many fans saying Jones is ducking Aspinall.
Tom himself has now come out on his YouTube Channel to ask fans why they’re surprised, and claims that Jon Jones has ducked Francis Ngannou for three years. Ngannou and Jones was a massive fight to make, but it never happened and now Francis is no longer with the UFC. Hopefully this isn’t the same thing that happens with Jon and Tom.
People are starting to act surprised, oh, Jon’s a duck, Jon’s a duck, this that and the other. Jon Jones ducked Francis Ngannou for three years. Like, don’t be surprised that this guy always takes fights where he’s at their advantage and that’s not me getting at Jon. These are the facts of it. Jon’s a very touchy guy and he likes to, like I said, he likes to be smart about his approach and control the narrative of fans by saying he’s the GOAT. Which, he’s definitely got a case for, by saying that “oh this guy Tom’s a, Tom Aspinall is a nobody.” Well, mats, I’m a nobody who has a number one ranking and has finished five of the top ten guys in the first round. Like, I’m one of them top ten guys so, that’s nine guys, five of them, I’ve beaten in the first round. So, there’s only four guys left in the top ten who I haven’t beat. So, I ain’t coming just for Jon Jones, I’m coming for the belt. Whoever has the belt is who I want to fight, if I’m not the champion.
Tom continued on to say that if Jon did beat him, he’d gladly shake his hand and admit defeat.
I’m a little bit disappointed that Jon, as the great champion that he is, doesn’t want to give other guys the opportunity when someone’s breathing down his neck. Because, that’s the first thing that most champions would do, is like “alright this guy wants it, I’m going to put him in his place.” And if he thinks I don’t deserve it, show me that I don’t deserve it. Show me. Sweet. Mate, if you kick my ass in front of the whole world, I’m happy to put my hand out and go “listen, you’re the better man.”
Tom Aspinall will be cageside this Saturday and maybe Jon will finally acknowledge him after the bout, if he wins. You can see the full card for UFC 309 here.
