Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev?
The UFC Lightweight Division has been in a weird spiral the past few months. Despite Magomed Ankalaev being the clear contender, he was forced to put up his contenders spot and fight Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308 last mont, while Alex Pereira defended against Khalil Rountree the show before.
Both Ankalaev and Pereira won, but, Jon Jones, UFC Heavyweight Champion, has been calling for Alex if he wins this Saturday at UFC 309. Now, Dana White has put a stop to it all. Dana came out earlier to say Jones will fight Aspinall next and according to a tweet from Magomed Ankalaev, Dana White has told Magomed’s team that he will get a championship shot at Alex Pereira next.
There were rumors of Pereira vs. Ankalaev at UFC 310 in December, since that card lost its main event due to a Belal Muhammad injury. But, that seems unlikely now. There’s no official date for the championship matchup at this time, but well keep you updated.
