Proper No. 12 Whiskey Cuts Ties With Conor McGregor
Not a good time to be Conor McGregor.
Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey
Conor McGregor was recently on the wrong end of a lawsuit that alleged he assaulted a woman in Ireland and was found guilty in the civil case, now having to pay €248,000 in damages. Mcgregor said following the court hearing that he would appeal the decision. But, the damage is already done. Since then, Conor has been losing brand deals left and right, including ties cut with the ‘Hitman’ video game and other sponsors. Now, he just lost his biggest deal yet.
It was reported earlier today that multiple grocers and alcohol establishments are stopping the sales of Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey, the whiskey that Conor is apart of. But, now, the Proper Twelve company is dropping Conor all together. The Irish Independent was the first to break the news, stating that the owner of Proper No 12 Whiskey has announced it will no longer use Conor McGregor’s name or likeness on the drink.
Proximo Spirits, who bought the whiskey brand from McGregor in 2021, has continued to promote Proper No 12 Whiskey and Proper No 12 Apple Whiskey with Conor at the helm. Now, the company said today it was ending the association.
“Since 2021, Proximo Spirits has been the 100pc owner of Proper No 12 Irish Whiskey,” it said. “Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr McGregor’s name and likeness in the marketing of the brand.”
Stores such as Tesco, Costcutter and Carry Out retail outlets, SuperValu and Centra have all cut ties with the whiskey. It’ll be interesting to see if they bring it back now with Conor McGregor’s ties being cut from the brand.
