Mikey Musumeci Blasts Steroid Users In Jiu-Jitsu, Wants To Help The Sport Grow

Steroid use in BJJ has been an issue.

Jiu-Jitsu has been a sport for decades and decades, but it’s one of the only sports to have such lenient rules on using PEDs. Of course, it is frowned upon and you’re not supposed to use performance enhancing drugs, such as steroids, but some do and can get away with it. 

UFC is trying to change this with their Fight Pass Invitational and signing some of the top BJJ players in the world, like Mikey Musumeci. Mikey was the first of many to sign an exclusive Jiu-Jitsu contract with the UFC to compete on their FPI shows, including his debut this Thursday on UFC Fight Pass against Filipe Machado. 

Heading into the match, Mikey did UFC media with the UFC 310 fighters in Vegas today and had some thoughts on the PED usage in the sport.

 I feel tremendous responsibility. Other people like Gordon (Ryan), Craig (Jones), they’ve definitely helped the sport grow in different way, but I feel like what I’m doing right now is definitely the most important thing for grappling in terms of having a stable platform. I feel like alot of Jiu-Jitsu right now is very unstable, there’s a lot of horrible ethics, morals and I hope now that with UFC, we can change that and we can make it a professional sport because it hasn’t been a professional sport, Jiu-Jitsu. With people just talking about, like, they blatantly use PEDs. Like, they’re not athletes, you know? So, they really don’t have the values of martial artists, you know, so, I really just want to change that and give us this platform on UFC and become professionals.

UFC Fight Pass Invitational 9 is this Thursday, December 5th on UFC Fight Pass headlined by Mikey Musumeci and Filipe Machado.
