WWE Has Reportedly “Quietly” Canceled Long Running Yearly Event
WWE’s annual Holiday special “Tribute To The Troops” has reportedly quietly been canceled.
WWE’s Tribute To The Troops first aired in 2003, and has run every year since, except for 2019 which was a non-televised event, but it appears as though 2023’s event may be the last of the annual series, as WWE did not record an episode this year.
According to Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio discussed WWE’s Tribute To The Troops, and said that “it’s done.” He stated that they had too many other things going and it just wasn’t taped this year. He went on to say that he didn’t know if the show was done for good, but noted that this was the first year WWE had not done anything with it, and noted that it was a Vince McMahon thing, and that it’s not Vince McMahon’s company anymore.
“No more. It’s done. Obviously the year being up, I think in the last month people were kind of asking when are they taping it. It just was not being taped. They had too many other things going on. I don’t know if it’s done for good but this is the first year they haven’t done anything with that…It was a Vince McMahon thing and it’s not Vince’s company anymore. And it’s not something you’re going to advertise we’re not doing this anymore but it quietly went away this year.”
The concept of WWE’s Tribute To The Troops was originally credited to JBL, who was said to have suggested it to Vince McMahon.
We will keep you updated if we hear anything more about the future of WWE’s Tribute To The Troops.
