Matt Hamill Offers A Rematch To Jon Jones, Willing To Fully Train
Hammer vs. Bones 2?
Jon Jones, for the most part, is undefeated. But, he does technically have one loss on his record thanks to Matt Hamill. In 2009, Jon and Matt fought, which saw the fight end in round one due to a disqualification when Jon Jones used a 12-6 elbow to strike Matt, which was illegal at the time. The DQ gave Matt the win, and it’s been the only blemish on Jones record.
Now, the 12-6 elbow is no longer illegal and that rule has been erased. So, Jones and UFC President Dana White have been trying to get the decision reversed, but it hasn’t worked. Now, Matt Hamill spoke to Ariel Helwani where he spoke about the controversy and said that if Jon wants a rematch, he’s down to do it.
Hamill said that if he could talk to Dana and get this done, he’d be down to enter a full training camp and fight Jones. He noted that this wouldn’t be like a Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson bout, this would be full blood and broken bones.
Matt Hamill, the only person to defeat Jon Jones, is willing to give Jones a rematch. “If the 1-loss record really bothers Jon Jones, let’s have a rematch. It’s not going to be like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. I expect there to be blood and broken bones.”
Matt giving Jon the opportunity to get back that one lone loss for the current UFC Heavyweight Champion may be enticing, but, the current rumor circulating is Jon Jones defending his title against UFC interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall in mid-2025.
