Alex Pereira Rumored To Be Moving To Heavyweight For Alexander Volkov Fight
Alex Pereira’s heavyweight move?
Alex Pereira vs. Alexander Volkov?
Alex Pereira is currently the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion, though, he has teased going up to Heavyweight for potential matchups with Tom Aspinall or Jon Jones. Now, according to Brazilian MMA content creator Laerte Viana, Pereira is rumored to be moving up to Heavyweight, but for a fight with the number 3 contender, Alexander Volkov.
If this were to happen, the winner would most likely be the next in line for a shot at the heavyweight title, which is currently held by Jon Jones, though rumors have swirled recently that Jon Jones is expected to defend his title against interim champion Tom Aspinall later this year. That remains to be official at this time.
Though Alex potentially moving up to heavyweight could be interesting, the backlash this has caused from the fans has blown up. Despite being Light-Heavyweight Champ, Alex has yet to defend the title against the rightful number one contender, Magomed Ankalaev. Sitting at 19-1, Magomed has not lost since 2018. He recently defeated Aleksandar Rakic in October, which was believed to be the final fight to boost him towards a title shot. Now, maybe not?
As of now, Alex moving up to fight Volkov is not official from the UFC. Maybe they’ll see the fam backlash and consider changing their mind, or potentially just stripping Pereira of the gold if he were to move up. In 2025, it’s time we give rightful contenders their rightful title shots.
