Marlon Moraes inks fight deal with Pro Fighters League, set to compete in Featherweight division next year
The former UFC Bantamweight title challenger is close to joining the Professional Fighters League.
Marlon Moraes (23-10) last fought this past March, losing in the 1st round to Song Yadong. A month later via his manager Ali Abdelaziz would announce his retirement from MMA, however plans have changed.
“I want to thank everyone,” Moraes said in a statement. “Sean Shelby, Hunter Campbell, Dana White, and the UFC for giving me so many opportunities. I want to thank my family, coaches, manager, everybody who has been part of my career. I’m still going to be around MMA helping young guys and my friends.”
This was first reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN. Moraes plans to compete at 145 pounds for 2023 PFL season.
Prior to signing with the UFC in 2017, Moraes went 11-0 during his run in the World Series of Fighting where he won the Bantamweight championship and defended it five times.
The World Series of Fighting is now known as the PFL following the acquisition and restructure of the WSOF in 2017 by MMAX Investment Partners.
Moraes biggest wins in his UFC run were against current UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and former WEC and UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
The PFL signed Shane Burgos to their featherweight division this past August, he competed for the UFC and is coming off a win prior to signing with the PFL.
The finals for the featherweight championship and $1 million dollars is scheduled to be between Bubba Jenkins vs. Brendan Loughnane on a date that has yet to be announced.
