WWE Files Trademark For Rights To Starrcade Name

On July 17th, WWE filed for the trademark on the name “Starrcade”, which the company used as a special house show Live Event in November of last year.

As you may remember, Starrcade was the feature and biggest Pay-Per-View of the year for Jim Crockett Promotions, which eventually became WCW. Starrcade ran annually starting as a Thanksgiving Night supershow back in 1983 running through December 2000, prior to the company being purchased by WWE in March of the following year.

It had also previously been reported by PWInsider that WWE had planned on running additional events in the future using the name.

It is curious given the timing of the filing of this trademark, along with the “historic announcement” that is planned for tonight’s RAW. It has been rumored that WWE could be announcing their first ever all women’s ppv, no word yet on if the two are connected.
